Finnaly, im getting a new video card, this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143110

Now, the card requires 250W of power to work. I looked in my manual and it says 200W or 250W. How do i find out which one i have, 200 or 250? The computer is a dell demension 2400 btw.

EDIT:looked inside, found out that the power supply is only 200W.... :(
Now i need to buy a new power supply. Does anyone know where i ca get a new power supply for a dell dimension 2400? I need one with 300W(the card only needs 250W but i want an extra 50W to avoid problems)

You'll probably be fine with that, just so you know. They overrate minimum power just to be safe. But I don't know the rest of your specs so..

To be honest, I don't know much about upgrading PSU's on any retail computers like that.

Don't listen to mr. global warming (bedazed) 1000 watts is a waste if you dont have sli cards (which he cant have :-( )

it had a 200 watt power supply

Pentium 4 @ 2.66GHZ
512MB ram, PC2700 i think (333mhz)
1 hard drive @ 7200 rpm
2 optical drives, a cd reader and a cd reader/burner.
Thats pretty much everything that uses up a lot of power (cept motherboard)

Masterjohnny, i really dont have a lot of cash, im on a tight budget.

If you don't buy a quality power supply, your system will be unstable. btw, if you don't want to deal with rebates, here's a 300 watt power supply that is good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194023

Also, have you checked whether your system takes a standard size power supply or not? Sometimes they use smaller size ones. If you do need one of those smaller ones, here's one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817103507
It is also still above what you said you need, at 270 watts.

Doesnt dell modify their power supplys? if so, please remember that this is a Dell Dimension 2400.

Would this be any good?: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260183783955

your ebay power supply doesnt mention efficiency or the brand name?

The brand is sort of seen in the picture of it, says "enlight" or something like that.
Just saw this:
Quote
High standard of quality with FCC, UL, CSA, CE, TUV, SEMKO, NEMKO, FIMKO, DEMKO, and CB certification. Model# HPC-300-101
EDIT: Will that power supply work with the dell?

If you can find a UL number on your powersupply, this can help you.
http://www.jonnyguru.com/SMPS_UL.htm

Enlight is pretty decent though.

OH, I see what's going on.

That's an.. okay power supply, I guess.

It's suited more for old systems like yours, so yeah..

My opinion is no because i could not find the efficiency..plus the ebay says its used so..yeah..a failing power supply can kill your comp
