We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

I ran SC2 just fine in my hp lappy with intel chipset built in graphics a core 2 duo 1.74Ghz and 2.5GB RAM.
You people like to spend a lot of money.
You must be kidding, with 1.74GHz you won't get that far in SC2, I guess a "Golem" map will cause you to hang.
He has a point here. Remember the original requirements of SC1 (P90, 16MB RAM) and what you need today to be able to play anything except the most basic ums / melee maps. Especially in multiplayer.
Probably the increase won't be as dramatic as in SC1 but you'll still want enough CPU reserve power for big battles.

Small side question: does starcraft2 have dx10 capabilities?
I really hope so. I mean we are on DX11 now.

Meh, DX10 and 11 aren't incredibly impressive compared to 9 anyway, they made shadows slightly better, and other than that you can't see much of a difference, yet you use a ton more processing power for a nearly identical result.

Lots of sites claim the 8600 GT is good enough for the recommended requirements.

The requirements for the SC2 Beta have been released:
Quote
PC Minimum Requirements:
• Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1/Windows 7
• 2.2 Ghz Pentium IV or equivalent AMD Athlon processor
• 1 GB system RAM/1.5 GB for Vista and Windows 7
• 128 MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card
• 1024x768 minimum display resolution
• 4 GB free hard space (Beta)
• Broadband connection

None.

This time, however, they may have made better predictions for the system requirements. Wc3's system req's weren't that far off from what you really needed to play. Much less dramatic than SC1's original requirements, which was something like a 600Mhz processor.
