Hello, I am a noob trying to make a mod with specific ideas in mind, and while I've read enough tutorials that everything else seems to be working, there is one problem: I'm trying to get the Hero Marine unit to have an standard attack that only affects biological, non-building units (such as Zerg units, other marines, zealots, etc. No Zerg buildings.) This is not working. I've tried many different checking many different combinations of the little boxes in the bottom right corner of the Weapons DatEdit screen, but no matter what I do the attack affects all units, air and ground. Help, please?

The Attack order ignores targeting flags entirely. The only way to do it is to set his attack order to something other than Attack, in the AI Actions section of units.dat, then use iscript to make that other order into a normal attack. I think you can set up some unused order to work; I'll test it.

EDIT: Tests show that you cannot use an unused order. You're going to have to cannibalize some existing spell. You'll want to set its energy cost to 0 in techdata.dat, then set the hero Marine's Attack Unit order to the order for that spell, then change the spell's weapon to work like his normal weapon.

One alternative is to change the weapon type to splash (air) and give it a very small inner splash radius (5 inner / 0 medium / 0 outer). Then the weapon damage would obey the biological / no-building flags.

A splash of 1 inner would probably be better/safer, since flying air units can stack on each other very closely.

Well that's what Splash (Air) is for. With Splash (Air), you only deal 100% damage to the main attack target. Since you have 0 medium / outer splash radius, no other units are harmed.

More info on splash damage.

That's pretty cool. I never knew the exact behaviour of Splash Air.

Oh_Man -- whereas just "press X to get 50 health back" is pretty mindless

Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort

Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
