So as this summer begins to unfold, one of my commitments is to get back into the drums.

I know some of you here are drummers or people who've played the drum set at some point in their lifetime so I want to ask you guys this. I currently have a Rhythm Traveler, which is basically a very small drum set. It has a snare, three toms, hi-hat, and a Ride-Crash symbol. The best thing about this set is that it has muffle heads, so you can play this set at night without disturbing anyone. I've had this set since Fall 2000 and haven't touched it at all since I graduated High School in Spring 06.

So now I am looking for a better drum set for a cheap price for one. And to be more specific, electric drum sets have really caught my eye.

I know most good electric drum sets can sky rocket up to $2k or more but I am well aware of certain ones that range anywhere from $300-$600. I am not that great of a drummer so my expectations aren't that high either. Since I already do have an acoustic Drum set I figured an electric drum set wouldn't hurt (and it doesn't have to be all that great or flashy.)

So I searched on Craig's List and found this listing. This guy is offering a Lloyd Audio (LA7000) for $400. This sounds really tempting to me but what I'm concerned about is the price. Is $400 a good price for this kind of low end electric Drum set? I've tried googling this kind of drum set but I haven't been able to get very many reliable feedback concerning the price. Some places/people would try to sell this at $300, other's at $500. I even remember seeing someone claim that they were offered this same drum set for $150 dollars. Or should I somehow try to bargain the price down?

Isn't $400 the price that it is retailed for? That's a huge rip off, especially since it is used. I wouldn't buy it. It should be around $200 used.

I'm not really going to bother with pricing things, but:

Pearl Drums:
Two snares, three toms, bass drum
Zildjian Cymbals:
Hi-hat, splash, crash, 6" splash
Extra cymbal stands:
Most drum sets don't come with enough cymbal stands

Extras:
Cowbell/Woodblocks
Tambourine
Maracas (Just fill empty soda cans with rice/beans)
Double bass pedal

That's what I recommend. Screw the price, just like with guitars, you don't buy the cheapest thing available, you buy the one that you want and can afford. And as others said before: get a real drumset.

I did, and I'm giving him advice that opposes his current interest of the electric drum set. Simply put, I know for a fact that he will be more successful in his drumming endeavor with real drums as opposed to electric ones. In addition to this promise, I would like to add that a large majority of people will take you more seriously / respect your accomplishments more.

I went ahead and bought a Simmons SD7K Electronic Drum Set. It was at a decently cheap price and suits someone of my level of skill perfectly.

I can't stand electric drum sets at all! They don't even feel like real drum sets... You shoulda went with an acoustic set

I don't think MA is looking to be a legendary drummer anytime soon... which means you start cheap and if he wants to further it, he'll upgrade for better sounds. Good choice.
