Problems with Playing Starcraft Online!

OK, so Starcraft always has worked for me except that I just cannot make games that other people can join because of latency. (unless I do the download trick which means I can only coordinate with people I know)

My brother is home and we are trying to play Starcraft together. He can't join games on my home connection either (we are using the same cable at home). However we can join the same game and play it. The only problem is that it is uber laggy whenever we are in the same games together. Whenever either of us leaves the game, the game suddenly gets perfect. We can play separate games on the same connection and it is fine though.

So I've got two questions:

-What can we do to make it so we can play in the same game together and have it not be extremely laggy?

-Also, while I'm at it, I'd like to ask how I can make games that other people can join on my connection. How?

1. I have the same problem with someone who is two doors down from me. I would love to hear this answer. I think its because you have the same ISP or somthing.

2. Open up your ports. Don't ask me how, you already have the internet open, google it.

1. Sounds like a router problem.
Quote from Falkoner
This is an issue that happens when you're both behind the same router, since it's going out through the same port, each computer only gets every other packet, this causes major lag, and can only be fixed by editing the registry to change which port is used.

2. Port Forwarding is one method, really should be a stickied list of known methods of improving connectivity somewhere.

.

This makes no sense. Me and my friend have different routers, and we live 2 doors down and get uber lag. The only thing we have in common is ISP, but I think he just changed to comcast, so it might not be.

My number one was meant to be in response to his question. Don't know about your problem if it persisted after your friend switched ISPs.

That makes sense, so you're saying I could fix it by forwarding one of our ports? (I'm not very good with this vocabulary..)

Port forwarding improves connectivity with people when your behind a router that has multiple computers connected to it. If your both behind the same router then one of the computers needs to use a different port for Starcraft, I searched my registry and couldn't find the related entry that Falkoner was talking about though :(.

OK, so I followed the directions - I created a static IP address and forwarded port 6112 to that port - but I made a game called "/w madroc if 6red" and apparently I still do have 6 red when making games.

Someone help please?

Yeah, I've experienced the same-house lag problem with DSL, and as far as I knew I could only forward one of the comps. But if it's possible to change SC's port on one, that'd be great. Just remember that port forwarding works only when it knows which computer is getting the help. In other words, if you don't have a static IP and you have more than one computer, then you'll trade IP's depending on when each boots up, since you'll be having your IP set for you. (Static means it doesn't change.)

Beyond that, I know nothing.

But I can't even get it to work on one computer. :(

Well, is it the only comp on the network? If not, then make sure your IP address is indeed static, and check everything in port forwarding to make sure it matches... well do it either way. I'm not sure what else to look into, other than that your ISP/connection might suck =P.

Have you googled much for other causes than lack of port forwarding yet?

Oh_Man -- whereas just "press X to get 50 health back" is pretty mindless

Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort

Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
