Wow, thats really nice, and kind of original IMO. Good work. ^^
Yeah, you were right about me.
But can I get myself out from underneath
This guilt that will crush me
and in the choir I saw our sad Messiah.
He was bored and tired of my laments.
Said, "I died for you one time, but never again"
Never again, never again, never again

This topic is a prime example of how this forum is just a venue for people to jerk each other off. The majority of posts in these topics are just "Omg terrain" and "I like it." That really isn't very constructive. The two posts above mine barely manage to squeeze by simply because they pointed out that this is in fact pretty damn original. I'm not sure if something like this has ever been done before but I have not seen such a thing. It's pretty well done and I hope you continue to experiment with terrain.

Originality is not an opinion, it is a fact.

I agree with Espo :P , I love your use of the Pylons Aura to make the mud look like water, At first Glance I thought It actually was water :P , But this is probably the most creative Terran ive seen for Awhile, Even thou you blending it nicely, maybe try hiding some of the Dirt To mud parts in the water with sprites? So its a little more Seamless? This Could make a Interesting map, Are you planning on making a Map to go with it?

it would look better if you made the ledge high dirt -to-> water instead of normal dirt to water. you could use the normal doodad as well.

Too bad that pylon auras lag horribly, or else we could have had a swimming pool :( .
(That is, lag in multiplayer)

Awesome job, as much as I hate the use of pylon auras, it turned out very nice, but there is definitely a blending error that needs to be fixed :P

Now, while those doodad tiles, the ruins ones, may look nice, they cannot be walked on, and while this may not be a problem with the firebat, it might be with others, I think for most of the spots where you used them, I would recommend using the ends of bridges instead.

That's about all I can critique :P Very impressive, I especially love the use of the underwater cliff tiles to make it seem more underwater, also, I have a question, how did you blend the bottom of those cliff tiles into mud? Do the water cliffs blend perfectly with it when it's covered in pylon auras?

The terrain reminds me of the old Warcraft 2 days. I must say its very impressive. Somehow I feel you put the firebat message box there as if there were a problem with the terrain lol.

If I'm understanding it correctly, most of the area is actually regular water. Only the region at the end of the ramp is mud. Therefore the aura-submerged mud is blended into regular water tiles.

um well this is a sweet idea so id like to demostrate what i was talking about.

heres how you start doing it
(user posted image)

then you add mud, yes mud.
(user posted image)

the drawback, when you leave it the sprites disappear. A solution could be to have constant vision over it?
(user posted image)

the mud and water mix nicely under psi aura. this little Hi and square were there when i tested ingame i couldnt see either patches of mud.
(user posted image)

So pretty much this is revolutionary for new beaches, underwater maps, you can make any dirt doodads just have mud around them. Tits work.

Revolutionary cannot be applied to ideas PirateKing used in maps 1-2 years ago.

Sorry. Pirate King actually made a map with a cave filled with rock sprites from Ashworld and pylon sprites. The walkable terrain was creep, and it (if I remember correctly) had scarabs moving throughout it. It was one of the most wonderful pieces I've seen, even if it was sprite heavy, and it did not lag.

And yes, we actually already had a map showing this exact idea on v4, it was an entire lake that was walkable. I believe another had coral doodads and was supposed to be an underwater exploration. I experimented with using this in conjunction with a "submarine" unit in an RPG map.

You guys need to test your facts before spouting things like "pylon sprites lag". ("Traps aren't walkable! Pylon sprites lag everything! ")

Then again, it was just a viewing map.

bleh. revolutionary was a bad term... I know pylon auras were used before for "underwater" walking but i doubt there is one as smooth as this, anyway are you saying this blend isn't original or the idea... every1 on page1 said this was original.

I believe DK also made a river for a terrain contest on v4.
I can't remember what was it really.

Just because everyone on page 1 agreed it was original doesn't make it original.

If you played Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" to Pygmies living in the heart of Africa, they would probably assume it was original too, but it doesn't make it true.

I'm not trying to fight innovation, I'm just trying to fight stagnation and people trying the same things over and over again.

Try blending something that's never been blended. Like mud to something that isn't dirt.

so wait the entire blend hasn't been done? map please. O and that pirate one ive seen but if you have that i want it too. If you say you fight stagnation ima hold you to it. I obviously know "Just because everyone on page 1 agreed it was original doesn't make it original." but you weren't clear on blend or concept of what was original... and you still weren't answer the original question.
