My dad uploaded something and I got a virus so I had to reinstall windows XP but I had my old memory saved. First of all, how do I make my old drive which is now E to the dominant so I don't have to install all my things again. And 2nd of all I keep having this pop up that wants me to go to www.helpfixpc.com because my registery is errored? I got AVC anti virus, NOD, and all these to try and get rid of it. So far what happened from deleting the "trojans" was deleting autoplay.exe which now won't let me open any of my drives. What can I do?

Have you tried system restoring?

Also, I am not sure if this is what you want, but if you want to boot from your other drive (E:\), you would have to go into your BIOS (accessed by pressing a key during start up) and setting the boot sequence or priority to boot to the E:\ drive instead of whatever it is set to currently.

I am not quite sure if that is what you're asking, though.

Autoplay.exe was deleted. My disk wont open. How do I fix that? It said autoplay.exe was a trojan.

I reinstalled Windows XP on a new C Disk. I want to use my old one which is now E to be my main one so I dont have to reinstall starcraft, etc.

Also, for some reason, I dont have DirectX but my computer detects it. I dont have direct3d also. Wtf is wrong with my comp?

All i can suggest, is that you try to backup any important files and format that mofo! (not mobo, mofo)
It will be a lot easier to start from scratch and nothing from the past with come back to haunt you.

Well I got rid of virus problem, I think (Thanks to NOD32.. only virus protection that works well). Now my problem is DirectX. I tried installing it but my computer said it already exist. When I try to run frozen throne, it says I need Direct8.1 or higher. I went to readme and the technical support, it said to go to run and type in something. My Direct3D is unavaliable. How can I fix that?

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en
That's a download for DirectX 9c, the latest version compatible with Windows XP. I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about with the E: drive stuff. There is no way that I know of to solve your problems. The programs should work, but just not show up under the start menu, which is fixable if you're willing to spend a while playing around with things.

I've downloaded it a million times, even after updating my computer. It saids that they already detected directx but when i try to run a game, it says i require direct x.

Try going even higher than the Frozen Throne specifies.
Because DirectX creates drivers, you must make sure that the directory in the installation is in a system folder somewhere within the C:\WINNT\ for WIndoiws 2000 and up, or, C:\WINDOWS\ on older versions.
Also, check that it's installing to E:
Reason for this is that it'll look in the default (home) drive to find the DirectX Drivers.

What is the file or folder name for directX?

None.

Mar 5 2008, 2:47 pm Nintendo_Confed Post #12

C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\DirectX for Managed Code
I think. I ran a search for directX and thats all I found, also there is a DirectX folder inside C:\Windows\system32 but all it has is pictures.
ddraw.dll is inside C:\Windows\system32

EDIT: I think that most of the directx files are inside C:\Windows\system32, including dxdiag.exe

Simple.
To find the cwd (current working directx directctory), enter dxdiag into the run command in the start menu.
Switch to the tab DirectX Files, and see if there are any files.
Switch to the tab More Help and try the TRoubleshooter only if there's a problem (files are missing, shows an error in the status bar), or, you jist can't run dxdiag.

You may find you need to be an administrator on the PC before you can acsess Run or dxdiag because both are concidered admin tools.

Nothing is going to work. I'm just going to reboot my computer, but I know there is going to be the same problem of slowness. Like when I open a program, it lags a lot and affects things such as winamp and chops the songs while it plays. I was thinking of buying a good video card, you think that would fix it?

Mar 8 2008, 4:57 am AfterLifeLochie Post #15

It may not be your video card that's lagging your computer.
Have you tried looking at your current Processes (in Task Manager (open with [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Esc]).
Also, look at what's in your Startup directory because it may be full of files. Download a program like Code Stuff Starter to show your hidden registry startup applications (and disable them).

If your computer is doing nothing, and, the processes is under 5%, look at the actual bootup sequence in the BIOS, or, try starting an applicatin when it appears to be 'doing nothing' (start a new process or application in Task Manager). You could also have a problem if your bootup sequence is a multi-threaded single process.

its funny cuz when i put more song into my itunes library by getting all the songs from a folder...i get a small window that opens up and says "autoplay.exe" for like 2 secs xD

None.

Mar 20 2008, 6:14 am AfterLifeLochie Post #17

Seems to be auto-serching for autoplay.exe, autoplay.conf, autoplay.bat, basically anything called 'autoplay'.
See if it's finding what it's serching for, show hidden files, and find this 'autoplaay.exe'.
