I have no idea what to put here... So I guess I'll just put this here.
We all know everybody has different tastes, and those tastes reflect how sales are reflected, and how the economy gets effected (From what I've learned in school, I don't research)
But what do
YOU expect in a game?
Me? Well, it depends on the genre of the game.
Puzzle:Collapse Box
-Random puzzles. Not everything has to be set in stone, random may make the game harder, and contribute to a bigger space, but games should be about entertainment, not just a sure-fire path that they can get to without doing anything. Take Saw for example: You could skip an entire chapter, just by looking online for a code to get through the door.
-Fun aspects. Not just memorization, but include awesome features, like gravity or portals... (Portal reference, since it is one my favorite games)
Not much else to be said in my opinion, but I'm sure you can think of many other reasons.
Shooter:Collapse Box
Really not much to be said, except for the ability to "gib" people. Its one of my most favorite things to do, in case I find myself stuck and of need of some anger management. Which is why I find Soldier of Fortune pretty amazing.
Sports... I don't like sports that much.
Strategy:Collapse Box
-A game that is easy to pick up, and difficult to master. Like Starcraft. Even though I rarely find myself competing in melee, its good to know how to do stuff, and learn how to kick ass.
In general: (Probably the bulk of my opinions don't lie in a single genre, but it still applies to all of them.)
Collapse Box
-Complete randomness. Keeps you guessing of what will happen next, and make your predictions false. Also adds to re-playability because you don't normally do the same thing twice.
-An entertaining story. Probably the biggest thing of a game and its re-playability value. Without a good story, you won't get caught up in the game and you'd want to forget about it in a couple of days.
-Fantastic features. Ability to evolve, fun elements. Yeah, they are also very important... I don't want to find myself running around just mindlessly shooting people, I want to be able to do other stuff, like shoot lightning out of my hands to shock people to death, or to just burn them with fire!! Get that kill count over 9000 without bullets, and quicker too. (Although I do play CoD and Halo, and I love to do that stuff, mainly because thats the purpose of the game)
I can't think of anything more right now... I just wanted to find out why people love certain games... Since normally EVERYBODY loves to have war about CoD and Battlefield, without taking the chance to see how those games make people happy. Games are for entertainment, not war between people. Leave that to the real soldiers who actually fight with their lives for something they believe in. I even respect our nation's enemies, cause they fight for what they believe in too.
