Hi everyone!

I want to introduce to you all a somewhat obscure, but DEFINATELY an awesome card game called Monopoly Deal.

For details, watch this somewhat wacky video!

There ARE a few things that he left out which is quite important
  • Sly Deals and Forced Deals cannot take cards that are part of a full set.
  • Since you can put a max of 3 cards per turn, and take only 2, you can deplete your cards. Once you've done so, in the next turn you get five cards!
  • If you have >7 cards at the end of your turn, you must "burn" your cards (put card into the waste pile) till you have only 7
  • There're only 2 Deal Breakers and 2 Wild Property cards in the entire deck.
  • Wild Rent cards (Rent from any property) can only be forced on one player.. while normal rent cards take money from all of your opponents
  • Action cards can be used as money, as indicated at the cards' corners.
  • Players cannot take money from you if you do not have any cards out
  • Hotel cards don't need a House card on it first.. (he is wrong!)
  • If you do not have the exact amount that you owe other player(s), you must give a higher amount.

I've been playing with my friends, and let me tell you, the strategies in this game is crazy, and every time you wait for your turn, you're in constant fear that people will steal your money/properties and drive you to bankruptcy. It is a VERY exciting game (at least for the initiated), and it's only ~6 dollars. So buy it :D.

Now, let's talk some strategies
I'm going to go thru some strategies that I have gained while playing this card game.

1. A Penny saved, a Penny earned.
One early game strategy, before people start getting a healthy bank, is to take the big money cards when the player has no smaller money cards to give you.
Say you have a 5M card... and I placed an action card that makes you owe me 2M... You'd have to give me your 5M card!
Moreover, since you can place 3 cards, you can plan out your action cards to make it as effective as possible.
For example, say I have an "Its my birthday card (make players give me 2M), and a Rent card that'd make the player give me 4M... if my player has a 5M card, and 2M, and 2 1M's.. I would use my Rent card first to make him use his 1M and 2M cards.. and then use the "Its my Birthday" card, and he'd have to give me his 5M !
This is why, when you owe other players, never give them change! Always give the highest money card equal to the amount you owe.

2. Double Edged Sword
Action cards can act as money too. This is especially important early game...
I like burning my House and Hotel cards as money, as I wouldn't be able to use them until I get a full set, which would probably be much later in the game.
It is also a way to get rid of your cards.

3. Action Packed
Once the game continues, players will generally amass a ton of money. This starts making Rent cards, Debt Collectors, and etc. cards useless, because people'd just be trading money.
That is when Action Cards such as Sly Deals, Forced Deals, the Just say No's, and the almighty Deal Breakers come into play.
so... never burn those cards as money, cause you might need them later

4. Be Wild
Wild property cards are more valuable than you may think.
You can switch around the wild property cards as many times as you want as long as it is still your turn.
This usually makes or breaks your game! Always try to steal player's Wild cards, and keep yours safe.

5. Monopolize
Since Sly Deals and Forced Deals can NOT steal from a full set, you can protect your precious properties by waiting for a way to get a full set before placing them down.
This is especially true if you have wild property cards.
Careful, however, of Deal Breakers... they steal not only all your properties, but also all your Houses and Hotels.

6. House Swap
Spread out your houses
as mentioned above, deal breakers steal not only your properties, but also your houses and hotels.
You can move all your houses and hotels anywhere during your turn... so if you spread them out at the end of your turn, you can avoid some terribleterribledamage

7. The Good, the bad, and the Ugly
Your objectives is to get 3 full sets (monopolies)... however, there're easier ways.
Blue properties .. Brown Properties.. and Utilities all require only two cards to be completed.
While Blue properties are worth a lot, you may find brown properties and the utilities a bit underwhelming.. but they may be just the thing u need to win.
Moreso due to certain Wild property cards ;)
There're also Railroads.. which need 4 cards to complete a set... .. just freaking get rid of those.. save your money for better things.

8. Burn Out
If you use up all your cards, you will get 5 cards the next turn. This is a VERY good strategy, as taking 5 cards at once will give you a much better edge in strategies, and it'd keep your opponents guessing.
On the other hand, keeping many cards in your hand ALSO puts your opponents on the edge.. since they don't know what precious cards you're keeping.

Anyway, it's a great game.. :D
So play it.

Oh_Man -- whereas just "press X to get 50 health back" is pretty mindless

Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

Vrael shouted: I almost had a heart attack just thinking about calculating all the offsets it would take to do that kind of stuff
With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort

Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
