- How to publish custom maps on the public server of StarCraft II -
- This tutorial has been made for the Patch 13 users -

Quote
1) Open Galaxy Editor
2) File -> Preferences -> Battle.net
3) Replace host to: "us-beta.logon.battle.net" (without the quotes)
4) Your account is the email you use to log into http://www.battle.net/
5) "OK"
6) Open your map (finished product please?)
7) Map -> Game Variants -> Add
8) Add an icon (any) and fill all fields
9) -> Game Type: Category = Other, Mode = Other
10) Still under "Game Type": fill the 4 fields with something different than the default values you'll see (you can also edit the "Attributes" to customize properly your game)
11) "OK"
12) File -> Publish, press "Log In..."
13) Again, your account is the email used to connect on http://www.battle.net/ (or StarCraft II's beta)
14) "OK" (make sure you have selected all the desired options)
15) Connect on Battle.net
16) Multi player -> Custom games -> Create a game
17) "My Published" (in the little scroll-list)
18) Select your map + press "Create game"
19) Change the "Category" for the other choice than "Other" ("Mode" should auto-change)
20) Press "Open to public", situated to the right of "Game lobby"

There you go! =D
The 7th step (in red) is different for a Melee map. Simply press "Generate Defaults" (right under "Add") and select the 'default', you want for your map.
Some people say that you -have- to set your map to 'Unlocked' in order to publish it properly.

You may have to leave your map unlocked as well for the above to work.

Lets not open that can of worms again. Besides nobody has made anything worth stealing.

Well, my map got stolen during the very first moments of maps being published (stolen in the sense that the guy published the map without telling he's not author :P).

Btw, Yoshi, are you sure we -must- have the map Unlocked?

I'm not. When was following a tutorial on battle.net forums, the guy said you did. I never tried locking it because as you know I think locking maps is a terrible idea for the map making community as a whole.

I merely suggested it as a "if the above doesn't work, you can try this as well".

A map my friend wants to publish says that the name isn't available no matter what I put in. I've set it to unlocked, public. What do?

You probably either want it to be "None" or "Public" and use the Party feature to host it privately. ;o

It's probably the word-filter (censor). Try to look for words like "suck", etc.
And by "name", do you mean the map's name? If so, try to look if it is already being used.

NudeRaider -- Dem0n
Dem0n shouted: who said you were crossing a line
NT kinda did Ultraviolet
Ultraviolet shouted: I always thought it was kind of messed up to impersonate someone without their permission, but I guess that's artistic license for you. When you get into the realm of using AI to do it.. it seems even worse to me, but I'm not sure why
[2023-12-08. : 8:38 pm]
Zoan -- and tbh no, this is exactly the type of thing ai should be used for. Now if you were monetizing it, I would say you should emohasize you used ai for the voicelines
[2023-12-08. : 8:29 pm]
Zoan -- he asked if "am I now crossing a line"

Dem0n -- who said you were crossing a line
[2023-12-08. : 2:24 pm]
Oh_Man -- but if i want to make a LOTR map and use AI generation to give aragorn etc more voice lines am I now suddenly crossing a line? wen did we get so snowflakey
[2023-12-08. : 2:23 pm]
Oh_Man -- well we been doing dodgy stuff in SC for ages playing resident evil and helms deep maps - we dont own the rights to them
[2023-12-06. : 8:46 pm]
Ultraviolet -- NudeRaider
NudeRaider shouted: Ultraviolet absolutely. You can count me among those folks. ;) But I understand it. It's a silly name only kids find funny. However to know that and still own it that would be the manliest move in my eyes.
Yeah, I can appreciate that perspective. I've used so many handles over the years, I think I had less attachment to NerdyTerdy than some of the folks here. Just never changed my name much here cause it was expensive :P I still kind of like the NT name, but definitely prefer Ultraviolet. I think UV has been my handle for around half my life at this point O.o
[2023-12-06. : 6:34 pm]
NudeRaider -- So the question is will we as a society become resilient against these forms of attacks? Either by detecting or accepting? Find new ways to deal with it? I guess we will have to wait and see.
[2023-12-06. : 6:32 pm]
NudeRaider -- da real donwano
da real donwano shouted: Society is not ready for the AI power we're being given. I'll die on that hill.
"social media" is imo a much better example for "society was not ready for it". We haven't seen yet where AI will lead us. It has a lot of potential for good, but then again, so had social media. For now the only potential for abuse in AI that I see is in forgery of various kinds.
[2023-12-06. : 6:26 pm]
NudeRaider -- Oh_Man
Oh_Man shouted: guys what are your thoughts on AI voice cloning vs someone doing impressions. why is one moral and the other immoral? or do you think both are fair game
For me it's the intent that make the difference, not the method. If you copy someone for profit or harm, then that's immoral. If your goal is satire then all bets are off. I think people are just afraid to be deceived because AI removes skill from the equation and painting AI usage as immoral is their weak attempt to defend against it.
