I need to make the (mineral) cost of an ability be determined by the value of a certain (custom) variable of the unit that uses the ability. Any ideas?
EDIT: Oh, there will be many units of this type, all with the same ability, not all owned by the same player.

If there aren't too many possibilities you could do something like this:
Change Ability
Events
What ever it is that changes your variable
Conditions
Your wanted variable == 1
Actions
Tech Tree - Allow the wanted ability for player 1
Tech Tree - Disallow the first unwanted ability for player 1
Tech Tree - Disallow the second unwanted ability for player 1
Then just set the ability up how they have it setup at a building (level 1 on top of 2 on top of 3) and I think that'll work.
