I want to start playing counter strike so I can play with my friends. Lately my computer has been really laggy and it lags when I turn on winamp... Most of the time when I have aim, winamp, and starcraft loaded, some virtual space warning pops up saying I don't have enough memory. I need to fix that problem first. I don't want to reformat my computer.
First off, here is my computer spec.
My computer is some weird celeron D.
System Manufacturer : ECS
System Model : P4M800-M7
Processor : Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.66GHZ
Memory : 224MB Ram
Page File : 348 used, 198 avaliable

My GHZ seems pretty decent. All I need is to boost my mb ram and video card. When I play red alert or halo on my computer, the screen size is all weird, so I'm guessing counter strike won't be that good. I already tried it on this computer and it was horrible! I'm on a tight budget right now, I have about 200$. What can I do?

You'll need a new CPU, and more ram basicly. At least 1gb of ram and at least P4 775 3.0GHZ CPU. Get like a x1550 AGP graphics card, its like 50$. Total altogether, should be almost near 200$, less if on black friday it will be much cheaper.

You can also change your page file space to 4gb, if you haven't done so.

I have no idea what a page file space is. Can I do it in my computer without buying new parts? Basically all I want to do is get a graphics card and boost my mb ram to atleast 512 or over without spending over 100$.

Your page file is a part of your hard drive that your computer treats just like RAM. It's a lot slower than actual RAM, though (I can't remember exactly how to change it, but you can Google or wait for someone else to tell you how).
I would definitely upgrade your RAM as well, 224 megs is fail.
Dunno what your graphics card is like.

changing your page file:
go to my computer icon> right click to get to properties> advance tab> performance:settings> advance tab> virtual memory > click on custom size and set the min size to 4000 and max size to 4000 (assuming that your hard drive has that much to spare) ( i would give you pictures doing this but im lazy :D )

use auslogics disk defrag before changing your page file

Get more RAM and you will see a massive improvement. Even my now unused seven-year-old Dell had more RAM than that.

Do you guys know any cheap mb ram thingies? I also need a good but cheap video card too, enough for atleast guildwars.

It shouldn't cost much more than $50 to overhaul your ram to 2x512MB. It depends on what speed RAM your computer uses, but http://www.newegg.com will get you the best deals.

I think you need to give us more information so we can help you look for them..
What interface would your video card have?
What type of ram do you need?
And so on...

I need to get it to atleast 512 mb ram and I need a gaming video card. Interface? My computer is up to date, so any recent models.

Blech.. I was browsing newegg, and the RAM in my computer right now is about 45% less than when I bought it a year and a half ago :|

2x512 for $50 shouldn't be that hard, maybe more like $65.

What are the mb ram called?
Also, you guys think I need a new mother board? No one answered about my computer's slowness.

It would be better of a help if you guys post link of a nice videocard etc. :)

interface is pci, pci-e, agp

512mb what type of ram? ddr at what speed (2100,2700,3200) or maybe your motherboard needs ddr2 or maybe the VERY UNLIKELY ddr3

Celeron can only handle DDR400 and AGP 8x max.

From the way the OP posted, it looks like he has the old '02-04 models with 478 OR 775.

Uhh, Celeron can handle any RAM.. Celeron D doesn't have an IMC, and the memory controller is located on the motherboard instead, so what memory it can handle is based soley on the motherboard. And AGP, PCIe, etc. has nothing to do with Celerons..

And uhh, obviously it's 478 or 775, that's the only two sockets that use Celeron D's..

You really haven't given us enough information for us to tell you what to buy.

I would recommend upgrading RAM to at least 512(preferably 1gb), upgrading your processor (depends on your motherboard/socket) and upgrading your video card. Obviously..

Once you tell us what your actual set up is, perhaps we can tell you specifics.. =\

Ok do this go to start<run<type dxdiag.

that's not going to help very much, really.

well actually, he's given us his motherboard name, I just don't really wanna search it up..

http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=P4M80-M7&cat=MBB

AGP and DDR :\

800mhz FSB.. :\

Okay..

So yeah, you'd be replacing your motherboard, CPU, video card, and RAM, basically starting new..

The upgrade will be night and day. ;) Comes out to less than 200, or just about 200 shipped.

What difference would a motherboard make? A major one? Should I buy a video card and a RAM first? That is all I need currently. What is a CPU btw?

Oct 31 2007, 3:17 am ~:Deathawk:~ Post #20

Dude, you need a new processor, video card, and RAM. (just for better performance.)

And there is no way you're getting a good deal with a video card and RAM unless you buy a new motherboard. DDR RAM is very expensive, and AGP cards are more expensive than PCIe counterparts. Also, both of them are no longer supported.. You won't find any more motherboards made with DDR or AGP slots anymore.

So you need it all, including the motherboard.

CPU is processor.

It's a good deal, even at open box.. Try getting a 7600GT or a card around that performance for ~85 dollars alone... then throw in a motherboard..

Oh_Man -- because it adds anotherr level of player decision-making where u dont wanna walk too far away from the medic or u lose healing value

Oh_Man -- initially I thought it was weird why is he still using the basic pre-EUD medic healing system, but it's actually genius

With the modern EUD editors, I don't think they're calculating nearly as many offsets as you might imagine. Still some fancy ass work that I'm sure took a ton of effort

Oh_Man -- definitely EUD
