Editing menue background - palette weirdness

Hello.
I changed the menue background image.
This is the path in the MPQ: glue/palmm/backgnd.pcx

In order to make the new background work, I opened the old background in PSP9 and extracted the palette. I then loaded the palette on my new background when saving it.

However, the palette is very limited. The colors are very specific to the original background image.

My new background uses a very different set of colors. It is falsified too much when I load this palette on it. What is the proper way to do this?

Sidenote:
I also noticed that when I open the title screen (glue/title/title.pcx) in PSP9 it has yet another palette. It seems very impractical that all these components of the menue would have all these different palettes. Surely I must be doing something wrong.

I partially solved the problem.
I accidentaly extracted the palette from a .png version of "glue/palmm/backgnd.pcx" which I had saved for convenience. It messed up the palette.
In particular, it messed up the green text in the main menue (Singleplayer, Multiplayer, Exit, ...)

In the image from my first post you can already see it done correctly. There, as you can see, the palette contains a few green fields. These must be for the green text buttons (Singleplayer, Exit, ...). When I extracted the palette from the .png version, these green fields were not there!

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

Yeah, SC1 uses 256 color pallete, this pallete varies between .pcx and it is always recommended to extract the palletes from native sc files. .pcx, .grp (though we extract the bitmaps out of these) and such, so they don't get palleted back into something sc does not use since it will always use its own and not whatever you make.

As for actually editing palletes, that's pretty much not possible, or at least it would take a lot of time and programming too to get custom palletes going and it kind just isn't worth it.

And yes they all use multiple palletes. It's like 3 different ones or something like that.

Dein Projekt sieht grossartig aus! Tolle Idee
