i tried to change my sig image, but when i uploaded my new one, it still showed up as my old one. i then tried removing the signature then uploading it again, but that caused a white error page with a number, like 72601 or something similar.

Your old sig gets kept in cache, and is automatically displayed whenever an image of the right name or whatever is seen, to reduce loading the same image a lot of time. Clearing the cache or waiting fixes it.
