I was looking at Kenshin21's RPG for the contest and it made me think of a job system for a game...but actual jobs instead of jobs as in character class.
I know that job classes mean what kind of unit a character is in the Final Fantasy universe but wouldn't it be cool in some other kind of rpg where your character was not only a fighter/paladin/ranger/etc whatever class but also could choose any job out of a few from a town. For example you could go to the security forces office and hire on to help take care of thugs now and then, or some group that is all about town beautification and you can help make the city look better. Or preserving the forests, or capturing animal species. Anything. and you can either go kill stuff for xp, or do you little side job for money haha. sounds fun to me.

I was going to have a randomised side-quest system in my RPG before I cancelled it, that would have been similiar. The randomisation would have made near-infinite sidequests/jobs, all slightly different.
Red classic.

There was a similar concept in the map Life of a Civilian.

I recall a map that was called "Knights of..." and then I forget the last word. It was RPG-style where you could do jobs around the town, or go and fight monsters outside of town.
I played it all the time, but I think I've lost the map...
