Hello everyone,
As some of you know, I have many old maps that I created years ago. I was trying to show them off to a friend just now and more than half are crashing Starcraft or they can't join because the map has overlapping text.
So is there some easy way to fix old maps to be compatible in star craft today? I downloaded ScmDraft 2 Version 0.8.0 hoping that it would automatically remove these things but House of the Haunted crashes the editor, and I don't even have the option of manually removing them..
Also can you tell me what current things that were acceptable in the past, now crash Starcraft? Because I've got the feeling that it is more than just text overlaps.
Thanks, Bolt_Head (aka Neal)
None.
There's a
program that automatically removes overlaps, also, old sprites or methods of speeding up may cause crashes, or any kind of buffer overflows that you used to use.

That is because SCMDraft is retarded. Not even StarEdit crashes when you try to open that map (once unprotected, of course. xD)
Also, is this helpful? Combination of using the new StarForge: Ultimate with a really old unprotector (so nothing fancy happens), and then copying the resulting CHK back into the original map. I removed formatting codes for Forces (as they are ignored), as well as unstacked (U)Bolt_Head in the forces, unstacked the game name, and used a more up-to-date black player color. Somewhere in there fixed whatever SCMDraft was bitching about.
By the way this version is still open... If you want me to remove the attachment, I will. But keep in mind it isn't hard to unprotect a map. ;o

Falkoner, thanks I figured it was a huge enough issue that an app would have been created for that purpose.
Fartybillion, Thanks for the map upload. Yeah I have no idea what editors are being used for now days. I always preferred Starforge over SCMdraft but I figured Heimdal had kinda dropped the project or something. Oh well. Also there is no need to remove the file, I publicly released all my maps unprotected ages ago. I am curious about it being version 1.0 instead of 1.2 however. I'd have no idea what the actual changes between the versions were however.
Edit: Does anyone have my map Time Up bound, the only back up CD i found was created before I made that. Also the unfinished space invaders i'm looking for too. (i'm quite mad at myself for losing these)

I know I used to have Time Up bound, but alas no more. You may want to reiterate your request at the
File Request Thread.
