ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO
So I've been having a couple of problems when connecting to my university's network.
I can't actually connect at all and it's hard to think that the signal is "too weak" when everyone else next to me is online on msn
There's also people with the same laptop model that I have that can succesfully connect to the network.
It's also hard to think that there's something wrong with my laptop when I can connect to networks on friend's houses and to my home network and also everywhere else I go to that has a wireless network.
Any hints?

Maybe the school is on Wireless N and you're on like Wireless G or something? I know their supposed to be able to downgrade and such, but it messes up a lot.
None.
Have you tried playing with the settings of your wireless card?
Right-click wireless icon in tray > Status > Properties > Configure.
None.
The network isn't encrypted? If it is, you'll need a pass. Try manually selecting which network to connect to. Occasionally, i have a problem where my wireless connects to the neighbor's wireless.

It isn't.
Everyone can connect, hence my friends connecting to it.
I disable all networks then manually select my uni's network and nothing.

Sometimes when I have errors like this I delete all of my saved/"preferred" networks and then try again. I wouldn't recommend this unless you are
easily able to retrieve any secured networks' passwords.

I did that and when I got back home I couldn't connect cause I lost my own password
Anyway it didn't work when I tried. blah. Maybe I should just give up.

The best solution is probably buying a new wireless card.

The best solution is probably buying a new wireless card.
I'd go with this. My parents put a Netgear WG511 in their laptop after it burnt its own wireless out from heat issues. Has been working flawlessly since and has better signal strength than the stock one that was in it.

Oh, you should've mentioned it was slow. The problem (i think) is that the network is an 802.11a network rather than b or g and your wireless card can't connect to wireless a networks. Check if there are any driver updates for your wireless card, and if there isn't get a different one.
