Me and my friend got into an argument about an zombie open rpg concept that we were discussing.
Ok so the idea starts out that u are a human surviving in a zombie apocolypse, and a zombie kills you.

Now assuming that dying is not GAME OVER, what should we do? Keep in mind that we don't want GAME OVER.

My friend suggested that u turned into a zombie and when u kill 3 non-zombies u become human again.
I never got an answer to this but what would happen when u die as a zombie? Also there's the problem of that being illogical.
Post ideas for solutions!!

Have it that if you die as a zombie, a message comes up saying 'FAIL' and you lose the game. And it's not illogical, as zombies are undead, therefore they WERE dead but aren't dead now. Although they aren't alive either.

Red classic.

I have mostly left SEN except for the Temple Siege 2 forum (hidden to most of you). I am available via PM still, and Skype as JackRCDF.

If it is important to you, you will find a way. Otherwise, you will find an excuse. -Unknown

I'm pretty sure he's not going for having a "game ended" part of the map.

Ah. Then just respawn somewhere? Maybe in a necromancer's tower/Umbrella lab, where they have revived you.

There needs to be some sort of consequence for dying to push you to keep surviving. I think playing as a zombie would be fun, but you obviously shouldn't have the capabilities of that of humans, especially if you were a "smart" zombie and could control lesser zombies. I wouldn't necessarily want to die and I can't exactly think of anything else that could replace killing X amount of humans (NPCs or players). It's illogical, yes, but it would give you some objective to work for as a zombie, and allows for not having a 'game over' sort of thing.

Player zombies versus player humans would create an epic war.

Just give zombies the same gameplay as humans. In the sense that in your open zombie rpg (I'm going to assume everything) you should just be some basic generic zombie and set amount of kills can get you to a higher zombie or going to a certain place, like a lab for example would let you scavenge the materials or conditions needed to become a stronger zombie or to become a a human again. idklol.

For other zombie missions, you can have 'recovery' missions. But also if the human players can find antivirus, then they activate it when near a player zombie and they change back. Incidentally if you like zombies you will love my Necropolis map, when it's done. If it gets done...

Make it different than any other zombie map out there. Make it unique. I suggest making beacons as spawn points. If humans are near it and you are a zombie then wait 10 seconds (show a countdown timer) and spawn at the beacon. A way to counter spawn camping is to make a countdown timer for the human players to get to a certain location before time runs out. All living humans must be in the location to win. If there are only 2 humans that are alive and get into a location you could put up a score like 100pts a player. Much like L4D.

He's going for open style gameplay so win triggers are a no-no.

I'm sure that if you complete the last mission, you'll get a message like, "Congratulations, you completed the last mission!" and then you continue playing, or something along the lines of that. I personally don't like having a win trigger in maps that are open ended. The whole point of an open-world map is to never end due to the huge amount of gameplay outcomes they bring. Unfortunately, there is no StarCraft map out there, to my knowledge, that truly has open-world gameplay. Good open-world gameplay at that.

Pardon me for the double post.

I think that if a player (non-zombie) kills you then an ambulance needs to come to your location and it brings you back to a hospital. While you're in the ambulance some random occurrences can happen, such as someone alongside you that has a minor infection becoming a zombie, and thus they'll need to be killed before the threat becomes too big, and if they kill the driver then you'll need to take over the ambulance, but due to an injury it makes it rather tough to operate. Of course, after the ambulance drops you off the situation will be handled and a new driver will replace the dead one. Just a thought.

If a zombie kills you then you become a player zombie at the spot of your death, having to go through the objective of killing whatever number of NPCs and players to return as a human at the nearest hospital. If you get killed as a zombie then you appear at the nearest graveyard.

What I've come up with is cloning.
You die, you lose everything you have, but you come back as another version of yourself with the same brainwaves (And abilities) cause it gets sent via chip signal from the brain to the holding tank of your clone... Its a futuristic concept, completely realistic... If only the government supported this. (Plus if you started going crazy, they could easily end your existence and clones... Or just delete the insanity from the memory banks)

Or you could just become a zombie. You die, you're either dead, or in my stories, brought back because the virus that infects you is a special regenerative virus.

Depends on the feel you are going for...but defiantly have some sort of trial you have to pass to come back to living like labryrinthos rpg... do not have something like that one rpg where you turn into a sourage until everyone dies... thats not fun.

Cloning... God revive you... or maybe your friend has to shoot you up with a adrenaline shot or a rare pill that turns you back into a human.

Truth hurts. Maybe not as much as jumping on a bicycle with a seat missing, but it hurts.

Holy necro!

Don't bring topics back from the dead for no reason (funny that this is a zombie thread). The last post was from 2009, and TiKels isn't even working on this map anymore.
