Vrael, you set a few good questions. I guess I should just explain what I was thinking of when writing the lyrics. It's about the search for freedom and what it brings. I'll go over it in stanzas and explain what I meant. Then, perhaps, you guys will help me improve it.
A ship is made
For stormy seas
Not stillness of
Serenity
The ship is a person in question. He's not made to settle for less, he's made to battle fate.
Don’t be afraid
To suffer cold
When all you feel
Cannot unfold
By 'cold' I meant emotional cold - when you don't have much feelings, and those that you do have you cannot express. Emotional numbness. After some extreme experience (like snowboarding), I can safely say that I feel nothing. As if my emotions are fully spent. This is quite similar to the cold I was talking about. The cold that is brought by stormy weather in the sea of fate.
Accept this state
And venture on
To find a place
Of graceful storms
This is strongly connected with the previous stanza. The only thing that needs explanation is the 'graceful storm', which is a state when all your storms (challenges, struggle, extreme experiences) are not something you are concerned about, but something that you see grace in; as if it is the way it should be. Your storms are beautiful, you feel in them like home.
Do not accept
The calms He brings you
For all these gifts
Are made to lean you
Do not accept easy life/profit/whatever, even if it comes into your hands by 'luck'. Those are the things that will lean you. According to google translator, one of the meaning of 'lean' is to settle down, which is what I was going for. Although 'bend' also fits perfectly, since in this context, those two concepts are the same.
Don’t bite His bait
But grab the hunter
He’ll show the way
To those who hunger...
His bait is the gifts I spoke of in the previous stanza. Most people bite it and lose this game, allowing the hunter (Poseidon, ruler of the sea and all of its states such as calms, storms, etc.) to crush them. Allowing fate to crush them and settle for less. But if you don't bite the bait, you'll grow through the endless storms and eventually find the hunter - Peseidon - the one who directed your fate (with its storms and calms). Finding him means finding the true source of your destiny and all its events, hence, he'll 'show the way to those who hunger'. He'll reveal the truths of your destiny if your truly want to know them, if you hunger for this knowledge.
Old hopes He'll bring
Right to your feet
But you’ll reject them
Just like your dreams
Defeating your fate means gaining freedom from it. You'll probably mock your old, naive hopes and dreams. You will become something that is above those things.
The sea of fate
He’ll offer you
You will accept it
And then turn...
He'll offer to become fate for others. And you'll accept this mighty gift.
To waves, to storm
To cold and fog
You will become
What you have fought
You will become a Poseidon for other people. You will become something that can direct fate itself. Guide others to where ever you wish. Do as you please without anyone's permission. Hence you will become the force which you had to fight and defeat to get to this place.
And then you’ll sit
Upon His throne
Alas, in there
You’ll be alone
The firt two lines are pretty useless, as I've already communicated that idea in the previous stanza. The last two lines are more important. Having gained true freedom, you will probably not find a woman/man as free as yourself. You will probably be alone, which is the sacrifice you must make.
