As I've seen on this forum for awhile people are mainly just playing around with ramps and cliffs and doodads. (And always in jungle, no less). I have something alot more difficult for you, if you feel up for it:
In jungle and badlands, the depth of the water is pretty fixed, and looks fairly deep, like so. It also always appears to have steep, rocky shores. Compare it to iceworld in depth:

I want you to make shallow streams, rivers, pools, etc. like you can achieve in iceworld and twilight, in badlands and jungle. For an extra challenge, see if you can make iceworld's waters seem deeper.
I have attempted this, but it's not that good. If you wish to see it, I'll show it, but I figure it'll be better to go without any preconceptions about this. Good luck!

I'll try this. Also, show us your attempt!
None.
I tried my best but it was (almost) impossible. The thing is that the squares are formed that you cannot really blend it, it's like there will always be many ugly edges (like there is suddenly water).
Good luck on everyone who want to get something done

Using bridge/doodad tiles this might just be possible, at least on one edge.
I did this already for my new map, the goal was the same ( as flat as possible) and i made some kind of beach out of it.
I will not post the terrain, as you can see it when my map is finished, but i am interested,
if someone can do the same, or maybe better. I blended to high dirt so much can be said :-).
I doubt its possible to blend to Dirt.

This is my attempt... don't laugh, I've been doing this longer than you! =P

Eliminating the cliff is virtually impossible, but you can get it to be fairly shallow.

I got to this stage and just gave up.
here are my attempts:

Wilhelm's is a bit more blocky, while ASE's is less blocky but less natural due to symmetry and repetition. They're both pretty good, though.
None.
simple, not natural, but flat.

iīd not put it in my map, i guess...
None.
Not bad, Ellis, not bad at all.
Rook, yours... well, it's pretty eh. Not much blending going on. Still, I appreciate participation! I believe it really can be done.
None.
Eh, i'll give it another shot. You should keep trying too! :]

I gave this a try. Here's what I came up with.

I was just testing blends in this piece of terrain. It led me to these blends:

I was quite pleased with the results

Another try, this time i really like it.

Canīt be used that often, but for a small part itīll look nice.

Just here for the activity... well not really
Doesn't blend at all.

I think if you changed all dirt to mud and pylon sprited it'd look like a beach or something though.

"Oh, I see it"
I agree. It kind of looks like the terrain is going from dirt to water with no transition.

I don't think it really matters that there needs to be "blends" in there so much as the fact that it, visually, looks shallow. From his screenshot I think it looks pretty nice but I'd like to see it in-game myself. Mind posting a map, r00k?

Make some terrain, and we talk.

If this would be a competition ellis would win.
r00k, I like your style but the others are right, there is almost no translation.
Yoshi, yours is a try but it almost got the same deep & is a bit blocky.
I actually don't want to say such things without submitting my own peace, but in this case I had to respond.
EDIT: Giving it a try now, I'll edit this post once more to submit my own stuff.

Well its only 4 Tiles, but whatever here is the map and an ingame screenshot, enjoy.
If someone can do the flat version better, iīd appreciate.

I like rook's, it's the shortest looking water, and it's a nice simple blend, I think ASE's is pretty sweet too though
