The sword and the faith

Look, straight up, for 600$, this thing is a steal.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115539

The coupon code for 50$ off is EMCLVNR29. Ends 07/30/2009. I only wish I had the money to get one.

Enjoy guys, I know a few people around here wanted a good gaming laptop, and this is a very nice one.

The CPU seems a little on the low side for a gaming laptop, but maybe that's because I like to play processor intensive games, rather than graphics intensive, otherwise it looks like a nice lappy :)

It sold out already :P

It was a great steal, but only worth it if you're on that kind of a budget - I like the MSI I got better.

EDIT: Also, eww. It has worse specs and a smaller screen than mine, but it weighs more? Lol.

DTBK, would you mind telling me about your laptop? I'm interested.

It's this one. Not for a budget customer, but it looked like a good deal for what it offered.

I just got it yesterday, so I haven't had a chance to run anything yet. Based on the specs, it was a good buy.

I can't wait until we get .2 nm tech...

In any case, I'd hold off on most Intel right now. Wait until they've made up their minds on what's going to be what in terms of sockets.

They already have.
1366 = i7, premium line. i9 will also use this socket to continue the premium line. Early adapters (i7 owners) received the benefit of not needing to change sockets.
1156 = i5 mainstream line.
mPGA-989 = Low, budget line. HTPC and general, bought-by-parents-much-to-kids-anguish line. I honestly lose sleep over the people who go out to Bestbuy or Staples and buy a computer for their kids to play games on, not realizing its SUPER 3D GRAPHICS CARD is really an integrated Geforce 6150. :(

This is why I like AMD. I can put an AM3 processor in my AM2 motherboard, with a mild decrease in performance. Still though, the 775 is a dead end socket. Only get it if you have a socket 775 that will work with the q9550.

And the Q9550 is an absolute best.

I could understand if it was a slouch when stacked up against newer games like the E7xxxs are going to be, but the Q9550 when overclocked will not CPU limit you until you are running at least two GFX cards that cost twice as much as the CPU alone. Its a monster of a CPU, and if I had the money, I'd get it right now because 215$ is a steal considering it was like 255$ a month ago.

I am buying one. You should too. It's free shipping. You're getting this thing for 65$ flat. Amazing. I'd buy two if I had the cash.

Also, this is a 48-hour sale. I'm under the gun to deposit my pay checks and get this bad boy. Lets hope I make it.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

My 1 TB Seagate HDD was $90 and has served me very well thus far. Hell even the 1TB Western Digital is $94.99. Seems silly to pay $65 when twice that space is much less than double that price.

What it lacks in size it makes up for in price. I'm using this as an OS drive, not storage. I have two slower 500GBs for that.

Edit: Just ordered it. Very excited.

not quite.....it seems lke intel ISN'T reserving i# for specific sockets. there are some p55(1156) CPUS labeled as core i7s.

The 1156 i7s are different than 1366 i7s in features.

you sure? i wasn't aware of them having any special features....except for a higher turbo mode(or w/e the automatic speed bump feature was called) - which isn't really a feature.

As far as I know, the 1366 and up i7s will be the only ones with hypertransport, hyperthreading, and turbo modes of those speeds, with the lower not having hyperthreading all together. However I heard this awhile ago, so Intel could've changed their mind. It might simply be a difference in the same way as a P43 and P45 except applied to sockets, one just being better/having more features. In any case, I do not believe the lower socket i7s will be able to compare to the 1366 i7s.
