Hello, all. Long time member, and an even longer time lurker. I've played SC since '98 and I've made maps for maybe 3 years. By "made maps" I mean, think of a cool idea, layout the terrain, and never touch it again. A chronic map starter, I guess. Anyway, I work wit ha friend of mine. He focuses of the mechanics aspect while my main focus is aesthetics. So, naturally, terrain has always been my job. I've refrained from ever posting on here because I've got a little bit of a self-esteem issue when it comes to my work. I'm pretty much convinced that it's all bad, and so I've never bothered sharing any of it with anybody.
But fuck it. The SC community is small and it needs all the life I can give it so I figured I'd drop some of my blends on here to see what you guys think. I'm not really sure if any of them have been done before and if they have, my apologies. The only real blends that other people have made that I have come from Falk's compilation so anything not in there has most likely slipped by me unnoticed. So, without further adu:
A dirt-to-dirt cave I made. There's a thread somewhere where a guy asked for one. The replies didn't look to promising so I thought I'd try my hand at it.
The top sides are a little bit unfortunate but I'm pleased with it anyway.
I'm almost positive this one has been done before but I haven't seen it anywhere so here it is.
The corners could still use some work but I think the overall look is pretty good. It lends itself to extension pretty easily so you can have it be the same height as normal temple or 800 years taller.
Not really pleased with how these turned out but what the hell. Worth a laugh, at the very least.
Well, there you go. I have more, of course and I'd be happy to supply them if people seem interested. Let me know what you guys think.

The third one is by FAR my favorite
It looks pretty, and I've seen things kinda similar but this is a very good rendition. I would suggest changing the cliff next to the ramp tiles to a permutation that doesn't have grass so it blends better. I'm almost positive it can be done without any blocks at all.
The temple 800 years old or whatever needs some work. Especially fix the back side because it doesn't even need to be blocky?? Also i would try using some tiles from the temple doodads and maybe even cliff transition tiles.
The cave i have seen done be4 and though it wasn't quite as compact, the blockage was considerably less, though this may be nice when space is an issue.
I've seen the temple on water numerous times and as you may have heard be4 i really don't like rectangles / squares. Add some variation an things look a TON better
The temple ramp is a nice thought but it's so hard to blend, i don't see it happening w/o blocks.
Good job overall and good luck with your new terrain

i like the fourth one the best, it reminds me of when i make castles with temple.
Joining the terrainers is a good decision, some of us may be over critical at times but posting your work leads to improvement of the overal quality of your work. Anyway i remember when i terrained but didnt post anything, people on battle net never apreciate the work put into terrain, not like we do here at least.

I like these, they're all very innovative, and most aren't simply specific blends, they're nice and basic, which allows you to use them a lot more. Nice job
Also, I'd love to get maps for these, and add them to the compilation next time I update it

lol I'm terrible at creating terrain. Your stuff is pretty good, it's a little blocky but you could easily fix that. Only way to get better is to keep trying.
None.
There are obvious blocky spots visible.
None.
Personally, I only like the 3rd one, which is very neat; I've seen MANY attempt to do this but they all had to switch to dirt somewhere while you keep high dirt all the way, good job
The last one is by far too blocky :S

Yeah, I agree with you. The last one I just posted for shits. I wouldn't ever use it in any kind of serious map.
