I think we need to have an official representative of SEN that speaks on our behalf to blizzard and other fan site communities. We just need to designate someone whose job it is to let blizzard and everyone else know that we exist.

I also think it is crucial that we give this person a designation that it can be seen he is not just a SEN user. I think the case with legionnaire and his StarDepot merger idea is proof enough that if you are only listed as a regular user, you are not going to be taken serious no matter how much of a veteran you believe you are.

Who should do it? I think Minimoose would be the possible person, and I think it's possible now that Ex can do the moderating because if Moose is doing this all his efforts should be focused on this and not scouting out stupid people and their posts. If moose is unable my second choice would be DTBK. He can be charismatic and is well known enough to be taken seriously by others.

The plan of attack - find out exactly which sites are recognized by blizzard. Research up on them to find out what they have that we don't and vice versa. Contact Blizzard with a proposal. Get friendly with other sites.

Now for my second point
Bragging Rights

It would be good to know, going into this, exactly what we have a claim to fame on. This will be the spokesperson's ammo when dealing blizzard and other sites. Why exactly do we deserve to be recognized? Please be specific. I'll be starting the list with the little that I do know:

• EUD discovery, by Heinnerman with with help from Merrell.
  
• We have never supported hacking, and we dropped all support for EUD actions when blizzard patched them.
  
• Biweekly magazine. potentially
  
• 9 year existence.
  
• 5000+ registered users.

Moose would be perfect. However Blizzard haet SEN, this is well established.

If memory serves, Deathknight discovered EUDs. I don't think he changed his name..

I don't think I have any interest in being an ambassador, although perhaps we could use one in the future.

I always knew him as Deathknight, CountChocula rings a bell, and now that you saw it I guess I remember the change to Heinermann. Then, I've always been against name changes.

It's okay. I didn't know Heinermann was DK until 2 months ago.

Not really.

Why? "We need to" is not sufficent. The only thing I can think of with no negative side is obtaining beta keys.

While it is a factor, a good idea is a good idea no matter from whom it comes. If StarDepot (which, to my knowledge, consists of former SEN users) wanted to merge, they would have simply just not built StarDepot in the first place, instead sharing their ideas as opposed to suffering in silence until the "only" solution was to build a new site. (well, some exceptions on the silence, of course.)

Good ideas. But, all except making a "proposal" to Blizzard do not require any official authorization or intervention on the part of SEN.

Re: "Bragging Rights"
I'm sure that soon-to-be nine years and 5000+ registered users (on v5 alone), even if many are inactive, should count for something. Those are basic and general facts... I can dig up more specific stuff with time.

The only reason to acquire other fan site affiliates is to spread the zine.

I'll hold you to that. One thing you could find out is how many active users we have, and by active I mean check the forums at least once a month. Actually, it would be even better to have a # for how many people log in monthly, weekly, and daily.

What mapping tools were made by senners? Would any of them resent SEN taking credit?

We have Corbo. He makes uber meme and shirts.

FaRTy has made a lot of programs. Clokr_ was a member of TSE and he made ProEdit. Legacy(U) and MindArchon(U) were also members of SEN, and they made Uber@tion. I'm sure there is a lot more. GoldenUrg was also a regular on SEN and I believe he made GUEdit.

And now they run stardepot, can't use it

I made a trigger sorter recently.... I don't know how much it counts, but it's something. Wormer has macrotriggers, and someone else has ruby wrappers for triggers.

Well Stardepot is a Starcraft II community. Not really competiting against SEN or Maplantis. But I guess you're right.

I really don't understand why we need to speak to blizzard, or why you think they'd recognize some sort of ambassador. There's really nothing we need to talk to them about or anything they can do for us. As moose said:
