The sword and the faith

Hey guys,
A lot of stuff is going on behind the scenes right now, and rather than leave it that way, I thought everyone should know whats up, and give those doing the work their due credit.

First off, IP has been put in the new severity system which I'm sure some of our more observant users may have noticed by now. It is a change that resembles v4's warn system, but functions a bit differently. Severity points are added to a user whenever they are moderated, and the number of points is dependent on what they did. If you happen to have racked up a few points already, don't take it too bad, as they decay over time. If you've managed to avoid getting points so far, good for you.

Next up IP is working on, well, some IP stuff. Yes, IP addresses and things of that nature. Fixes having to do with proxies to avoid the spamming issues we had, as well as banned users coming back to cause trouble. As always we will be on the lookout for multi-accounts and handle them accordingly.

And surprise, I've been doing some work with my newly acquired globe. :)
I've cleaned out the clans, we went from 3 pages down to less than a full page. We're also going to be setting up some requirements for clans and maybe even changing how they're made. We thought it'd be common sense that you don't create a clan if you don't have at least 3 people but apparently we were wrong. :P So that's all been taken care of.

You also may have noticed a lot of users with names that were purely numerical. This was due to a coding oversight by IP and all members with numerical only names have been emailed that an 'a' has been appended to the end of their user name.

There's a lot of discussion going on in the staff forum too about some up and coming changes, and as soon as all that's finalized, another post will be made. I hope you enjoy the latest changes here at SEN, and if you don't or have some suggestions for what we should work on next, hit the old reply button and let us know what's up.

On a personal note, I'd like to say my previous attitude of 'Man IP doesn't do anything' wasn't at all correct. It's a lot different viewing things from an Admin chair, because there's a lot more to see. A lot of what IP does, and has been doing, is behind the scenes work, some of which wasn't even evident to the other staff. It may not look like it guys, but we're working, trust me. :)

So... you cleaned out clans with fewer than x members, IP implemented a system where admins can add and view numbers of members, and you're tracking IP addresses better. That about sum it up?

Hello

Good, and nice that you cleaned the clans, there were many useless clans "One-Man-Clan" and such.

Pretty much. I also had to go through the chore of getting each numerical members user ID so IP could give me their emails so I could email them all about their user name change. It was a hassle and I can't wait till IP makes a SEN-based way to do it. :P

It's just.. it doesn't really seem like much is being done. The 'Warn' system seems to be a very simple system for just adding numbers to members, and, really, what's there to tracking IP addresses? And all this has been over how long a period of time?

Lets see you code for the site, arm yourself with PHP and lets see how well you do.

While you're at it, get a job and a son and a cup of pepsi to keep yourself distracted while you're coding.

IP addresses have always been tracked. I'm more doing tools to manipulate the data we already have.
Also, as some of you may know, I've been also working on anti-proxy code, to prevent idiots from spamming the shit out of SEN safely behind one.
And just scp tools in general and moderation code.

There's also some stuff that wasn't listed.

Ah. That explains it. Thank you for elaborating.

OVERWATCH STATUS GO

Haha it has nothing to do with us. There has been a flurry of IP activity in the past few weeks, all on his own accord.

Anyone care to informally mention a certain change involving Farty, too? ;)

I just remember what it was like as a user when I didn't actually see what was being done, and felt like no one was doing anything. I figured people should know that yes we're working and yes things are being done, even if they aren't right up in your face. If we made a new skin I'm sure everyone would notice, but how many people would know by looking we're improving IP tools?
