New Mod Making clan!

Alright, I want to make a new Mod Making clan since [MM] has officially been owned. We will have our own '.com' domain, our own forum, our own Starcraft channel. I just want to know if anyone would be willing to join before I buy the domain and create the forum.

The requirements for joining is not a lot since it will be an uprising clan. We will all work on one mod a time to assure that the mod is completley functional and there are no bugs.

The clan will be broken down into groups, such as IceCC modders, DatEdit modders and so on. This will be a VERY organized clan. We will have our very own channel with a channel holder - maybe even a trivia bot!

So is there anyone out there that will be willing to join?

I'm willing to join. Words like "AWESOME, AMAZING, INCREDULOUS, IMPOSSIBLE, CONFOUNDING, INCREDIBLE, DISASTROUS(-LY COOL), ASTOUNDING, and STUPENDOUS" describe my enthusiasm. But I think I'll only be able to do anything after summatives and exams end.

Anyway, I would love to join. See signature for various modding projects, in particular "Es'ir Prus", which is in the v1bb stage. I have an SMC4 mod in the works too, although I'm unsure how I'll do it with the present time-constraints.

BTW: The channel should be on ShadowFlare's server, since B.Net auto-patches. Besides that, people who can't properly get in ShadowFlare's Realm probably aren't skilled enough to mod anyway. It's like having a filter against stupids.
Then again, if you insist, I wouldn't mind if you put the channel on B.Net anyway.

You're a founder of [MM], right? Nice. You probably know what you're doing. Hopefully. *Scrutiny.*

EDIT:
I approve of a deathly-organized clan. I'm worried though, since I am a jack-of-all-trades type of person. What niche in the clan would I fill?

Oh, hey, and will we actually be modding together? That would be wonderful!

EDIT2:
We should be [NMM], for "New Mod Making". [AMM] could be used too, for "Active Mod Makers." :P

Heya. Sounds pretty cool, though I'd love to know a little bit more about the project you have in mind before I commit to anything. I figure I'll have a bunch of free time this summer, seeing as my job is only part-time this time around. Also I want to finally do some serious work before StarCraft 2 comes out. After all I've lurked around here for years and contributed virtually nothing >.<

Not supporting any new modding clans till ML 2.0 is up and running. I'd really like if you could wait a little while Slyence. Most modders are helping me on the ML 2.0 project and we're getting close to launch.

Right. I've heard about ML. I suppose I could wait - I just want to be a part of somethin' that is actually going to give me something to do. I know I can make my own mods - I just want to work on a team project. Not one or two - I mean a TOTAL conversion mod where every little thing is modded from IceCC down to editing the little things such as .tbl.

So, are you in need of any more modders working on ML 2.0?

I'm interested in joining this clan when ever it's created. I have recieved training in 3D modeling and I'm pretty good at it. If you're really looking to make complete total conversions, I could be an important part of unit/building modeling and creating custom GRPs.

We need no more moderation staff. We need coders. There is an over abundance of people telling me they're qualified to moderate, and that's only counting the ones I know are actually capable.

If you had read the topic, when ML 2.0 is up, I'm gathering my fellow former MMs and gathering them into a new clan there. If Slyence forms another one rather than joining up with us, I doubt there will be too many modders left to join it.

The purpose of this clan is not explicitly stated, though I gather the intention is to form a modding team? How is being a "clan" different from being an actual modding team?

I thought so the same. It's divided between tasks like if it was a modding team and the same silly division between tasks that make teams fail.

A large modding team would be very difficult to manage. Most filetypes do not lend themselves well to being worked on by multiple people. Iscripting has some hope, only because of its individual scripts from IceCC, but even that requires meticulous knowledge on what all other parts of the mod will be doing. Basic modding doesn't really need more than one person anyway, or at most a couple additional people specializing in areas like BIN editing for menus and AI scripting.

Collaboration on art would work far better, but even that requires a level of cohesion to ensure everything visually meshes together. Vastly different styles and quality will make a mod feel hodgepodge, like trying to use every GRP from Infoceptor's database. There are also very few artists, and most have been kitbashers.

Sound artists are even rarer in this community, so I don't anticipate a huge sound team producing reams of custom sound effects, music, and unit responses. Though I imagine you could find a few people with mics to record unit responses.

Beyond roles, you also have dedication and activity levels to contend with. Compare the amount of signups to actual judged mods in all Modding Contests that have ever been hosted, and you'll discover a depressing disparity that truly earns the moniker of "lazy modders." Statistically, a large team made from this community will end up with a lot of dead weight.

The larger a team gets, the more time is needed to manage its members. Beyond a few people, a team needs someone entirely dedicated toward its organization.
