What the hell did the Allies do in Italy for two years after World War II ended and all the Nazis evacuated Italy territory?

On one hand, it sounds like you are joking, but on the other, all of it is true... (at least, from what I've been able to gather). The years 1945 to 1947 aren't very documented online.

Any links to the mafia involvement that you can provide? I can't seem to find anything; however, I know that the Allies "contributed to the rise of the mafia" (Wikipedia).

After the Second World War, The U.S implemented the Marshall Plan to European countries that were under Allied control. For U.S Soldier, they were assigned to help rebuild Italy's infrastructure of torn buildings until their act of service in Europe was over.
