I am now Officially Recruiting/Searching/Looking/Asking for a skilled map making partner to take part in the 2009 RPG Contest.

As you may know, I was signed up for this 2009 Contest with Oo.HavoK.oO. Unfortunately, he has jumped ship, and now I'm left alone to win the bloody contest. I'm asking for anyone who has experience with most of the aspects of map making.
Things that would be included and required are as follows:
- Terrain Blending
- Extensive Trigger Theory (I have started and will continue to use many advanced concepts, some of them which haven't been used before. In order for me to teach you these, you must have extended knowledge about triggers, AI scripts, locations, and more.)
- Creativity
- Organization
- Ability to meet a deadline (I'm planning on Jam-Packing this map, so there will be many pieces that we will need to cover)
- Visualization Abilities are needed for many of the effects used in this map. Not just spells, but buildings, actual unit-conglomerates (Yes, there will be a few units composed of several units used in conjunction.)
- And of Course, one HELL of a personality. There will be a ton of hours put into this project, but I can most certainly garuntee you - It will be worth it. However, we will be seeing eachother over and over, and I'm almost positive that there will be conflicts of ideas- as to balancing, spells, storyline (I have one all worked out, but it's definately open for tweaking), and many other aspects of the map. You're going to need your sense of humor, or you will lose your sense of sanity.

If you're not interested thus far, think about an RPG of this magnitude. I mean, c'mon, lets get real here - you never see a ... "Full - Value" RPG, Correct? There's always something wrong with an RPG, because lets face it: No RPG out there so far has that quintissential value, that epic feel, that incredible taste... And yet, this is your chance to be the first one to put that "Ever-lasting RPG" Out there!. If you're not in it for the Pride of being one of the makers for the ULTIMATE RPG, then at least you can be in it for the creation of something that will match your vision of the best damn RPG in the history of StarCraft.
Some of you that are reading this think that SC2 will come out soon, and everyone will dissipate away from SC1, and the RPG will be rendered pointless. Well,
Where you see a closed door, I see a window of Opportunity.
Think about it ; This RPG will be so well made, that it is Destined to have that last shattering pulse of any SC1 mapping that is left on Battle.Net. There will ALWAYS be people who will not transition to SC2, because they may just not like it, or they may not be able to play it due to technicalities, cost issues, and whatnot. Granted, SC1 will suffer a HUGE loss in population, but there will always be people playing UMS.
Thats the thing : UMS will always have players, no matter what. The reason why UMS has lived all of these years in the history of SC is the fact that it's flexible. It evolves with the players who forge the maps with the anvil of terrain, the hammer of triggers, and the iron + steel of unit stats and balance, all within the Forgery of the Imagination. The possibilities of games is limited to the powers of the mind! That being said, UMS will always retain players enough to host enough games to keep ANY style UMS player (Be it a Defense player, Invasion game, Massers, LOTRish, Arena game, and whatnot) active for years to come. Our RPG will keep these RPG players begging on their hands and knees for more.

In taking, I ask you for the powers of your mind to create this magnificent work of art. Scared of the competition? I spit in its face. Crescent Dyne? Teberous RPG? DIablo? These are nothing compared to the vision I have, and maybe we can transform my vision and your vision into reality. C'mon, lets put the Star Edit Network Motto to the test, and lets "Push Map Making to the limit. Let's rock both Battle.Net and StarEdit.Net to the very core, and let's make one hell of a game.

It'll be one hell of a ride, and I look forward to meeting with you, arguing with you, discussing with you, and creating with you the most elaborate, fantastic, gripping, and epic Role Playing Game ever.
Afterall, We wouldn't want to lose the 2009 competition, now would we? Hahahahaah!

No, Church, you've got it all wrong! Deadlines mean the ability to do what you say you're going to! Besides, we Have an entire year to finish. We can take our time because I got a lot of the time-consuming things down. I just need someone to keep to what they say. That's all.
But, Ok. If you still do not feel comfortable doing this, then that's fine.

Ok, Both of you (and the 3 that PMed Me) - I don't think that Kaias + Lethal will allow me to bring a 6-man team to the table for the 2009 RPG Contest...[I think it's because the'yre intimidated, hahahah!]
Just kidding, but in all seriousness, the rules are that theres a max of 2 per team. So, If you're only down for a threesome, I think I'll go with sticky (Or one of the PMers, I will ask the PMers about their mapping techniques, skills, and whatnot. Sticky I'm already familiar with.)

Church, I may bug you every once in a while to see what you think of a concept, or how/if something can possibly be done, (Trigger-wise). I think Kaias and Lethal may be getting fed up.

Church can help you in any way he wants, he just isn't allowed to be credited for any work he puts into it, or the map is disqualified. So pretty much it's like convincing him to work for free.

I have not originally planning on making an RPG, but your words moved me... heh

I'm a bit new to some of the vast possibilities of map-making, but I've been learning and making up plenty of ideas I've never seen before.

As for time, well, I've been waiting for classes to start, so basically I've been doing absolutely nothing but playing SC, map-making, and animes, for the past few months- except for occasionally doing some outdoor activities.

I don't know about being completely set on finishing the idea later, but I usually feel contracted to finish something if someone else is involved.

I am pretty good at finding solutions and innovation. I would like to show to you some of the bits and pieces of work on terrain and triggering I've done in the past few months, if you would like.

Please let me know.

Just here for the pie

I know this is kind of the typical answer you get in topics like this, but...

[typical]You can do more work by yourself than you can with that of a partner. When you have a partner, you must wait for them to finish their part before continuing onto the next map aspect. Sometimes it takes days for them to come on again (I would know) and they haven't even done any work. I know for a fact that working alone is a much more plausible solution because you also know your exact approach on the map. It's fine if you ask the community for ideas as long as you supply sufficient information on the map, but I think that having a partner is not the best option in completing a map. In fact, it shows laziness that you can't do all of the work yourself and rely on someone else to split it between.[/typical]

You have a point, inferno, but unfortunately, you are failing to take the psychological part of map making into account. Some people just happen to work better in groups; it's part of their slab of human nature- I'm one of those people, and I've been MUCH more productive since I started this project with a partner. Ever since HavoK left me in the dust, I've been slowing down horrendously.
At any rate, I saw a correlation between the two, and I decided that I need a partner for this subject.

And I do beleive that you can have as many (Credited) testers as you want without being disqualified, CAFG.

Flashbeer- I'll be on USeast (Including now, because I see you reading this topic) to see what you can do. I've been ... err... "interviewing" people to see how well they fill out the requirements, and I'd like to see what you're made of.

Well duh, but if he wants anything more than "And thx for to all or testers: john1,jon2,jon3...." for giving you a great idea or he triggered something you couldn't, then he has to bite the bullet. Of course you're taking a risk assuming he will, because all he was to do is proclaim that a certain part of the map was his work, and boom DQ.

If there is enough weight behind raising the partner limit, we will change it.

Or something like that.

I ask tons of people for help - Lethal himself could say that One of the spells was "His work" because he fixed several bugs in it for me. I've asked kaias many questions about things I didn't know in SC map making. Why would Church be any different? Asking him to help me with a few parts isn't gonna hurt, and If it is... then, well, I'll still be part of one Kickass RPG, so I'll take my chances with the DQ.

If you ever wonder if your map or any aspect of it is too boring, I have a very short attention span and will test that for you. I am hoping for many of the RPGs for this contest to be fun and interesting :)
