Why hello everyone and welcome to a random topic which only purpose is to serve as a weird awards ceremony! As many of you aware there are a lot of worthless maps out there, and sometimes these worthless maps suddenly are treated like God. I mean, literally! They are treated like god! If you say something bad about the map, no matter how much sense your opinion has they'll come after you like a bloody crusader.

Thus! Lets just begin this thread, shall we? And give a reward for the most undeserving map with the highest amount of crusade- I mean players. Hopefully this thread will have numerous other people contributing their opinions on maps which are overrated, and while doing so support the opinion.

Now, just to make this more interesting....












First category for awards is Zombies! It seems anything with zombies will make full houses appear in literally seconds.

Tenth Place - Undead. This map has been hosted a lot recently, and it's ridiculous on how no matter what version I join, it appears I don't have it. I don't find this map is necessarily bad, in fact I find it's quite good. At the same time however, better zombie maps obviously do exist.

Ninth Place - Raccoon City. This map is pretty ancient. In terms of Starcraft years this thing is probably as old as J.R.R Tolkien. Just like Undead it is quite enjoyable, but I definitely find Zombie Apocalypse is and was better, sadly to always be overlooked.

Second Category for awards is Enhanced Versions of particular roleplays.

Seventh Place - Lathirion Enhanced. I honestly never cared too much for enhanced versions of this. The reason in particular is that all it did was change a few names, swap a few names, and change a few stats. I find these versions as opposed to the original are overrated because I literally see these versions hosted as much or more then the originals.

Sixth Place - Feyvern. I won't even bother with an explanation. Feyvern and Lathirion aren't even that damn different.

The next few awards will be entirely on categories, no maps.

Fifth Place - LOTRISH/LOTR. Poor J.R.R Tolkien. It seems if you liked LOTR before the movie came out you were one of the geekiest, most nerdiest people out there. Now suddenly since the movie came out LOTR is literally everywhere, and if that's not creepy then there is even a bloody genre of maps called ''LOTRish."

Fourth Place - Game Based. If a map is based off of a video game, it'll probably attract a lot of people. A few examples are Video Game Arena, Sims, and any of the millions of things relevant to Halo.

Third Place - Warcraft Origin. It seems a lot Starcrafts best maps are based off of Warcraft maps. I find the transitions are often done quite well, and the maps are indeed quite good...but honestly. Custom Hero Arena is still alive? We have a fucking DOTA?!

Second Place - Narutardism. Why is it so popular? For one he wears Orange, defeating the purpose of stealth. He shouts like a retard to attack, again defeating the purpose of being a ninja, and his voice acting sucks. I read the manga before it came such a fad, I found it was decent. Nothing too great, nothing too bad. What it was, was definitely something to read. I figured it's tone down now though, seeing that their are less Naruto maps and less people with a Naruto references in their name. But for gods sakes no one dare should say it's not overrated if we have a damn Starcraft Clan based off of it.

And now, back to the map its self. First place award goes to perhaps the most overrated maps in our current existence in Starcraft. This map will fool people into thinking their strategists, this map will make an idiot think he is a genius. This map?

First Place - Helms Deep Annatar. As you know, I dislike this map a lot. Their are a lot of fine Helms Deep maps out there, with a lot more effort and time put into them. Yet sadly, this one takes almost all the credit. The reason behind this is because Helms Deep Annatar is a lot more simpler, thus it's easier for people to understand. That makes sense to me, but I also dislike on how some Annatar people are cocky.

I mean, for fuck sakes they think any other Helms Deep map is less strategic and that Annatar is the Holy Grail of strategy. Sorry, but I'm afraid to say it's really not. Annatar is the easiest of Helms Deep, and it's not nearly as strategic nor hard to understand as Poody, WS, or Frozen.

I'm sure not everyone agrees with me on my lil' list but obvious this is a forum, and hopefully you'll all contribute some of your experiences you've had with an overrated map, which you disliked.

Edit/Added - Is there any reason for reporting this post? Or did the person that reported it randomely assume it was spam? Well, either way it's not and it took time and effort to post it. Also keep in mind, this is technically abuse of Staredit.net's report function. Oh, and I think this is in the right section. It is right? "General Starcraft" Is the right section for talking about Overrated maps, Right?

Hmm, I really havn't even played most of those maps lol. I'd have to say I really liked Racoon City, but I havn't played Zombie Apocalypse so I wouldn't know if it's better. Personally, I think movie maps need to be added on there.

Do you mean maps based off of movies or literally maps that are movies? Well, if you mean maps based off of movies then I very did mean to include them, but I guess I forgot to add them. Aw well.

i thought this might be nominations for worst and most overated maps. Thats what you should do, and then have a voting.

Oooh! Nice idea! I quite agree! Next time I make a lil' mock ceremony I'll let people actually vote n_n! As for the The Family Guy mass games... I was intending on placing Mass Games in general quite high on the list, but as you notice #8 has left us =(.

Sadly number eight couldn't make it to the ceremony and died =(.

I ment maps that are actual movies. The idea alone is pretty horrible.

I agree Helms Deep Annatar is the WORST helms deep map out there, most less strategic, WS, aero, poody, and frozen take much more tactics to win, unlike Annatar, and it's the most played helms-deep out there, second of all concerning about "DoTAs", Custom hero wars, and Temple siege have already been bested, by? Korean maps, they literally make DoTA on sc, with skill level ups, items and such. And of course flashy attacks with killer triggers. Third Naruto....thats the most overrated anime ever, and the maps for it suck overall, try "WaF" or "Last Battle", they are true arena maps, for undead maps, I have a nice map called "Undead Invasion RPG" (which I'll upload, soon), which has some sort of concept to it. LoTRish isn't all that fun, most of the tactics are obvious. Game based games arn't too bad, just people make bad versions of it. Like Fate Stay Night maps(an OVERRATED anime in Korean, but it's overall concept is great, storyline is good as well) are good.

Bound and Control 4
Man, that map is the worst bound and control ever, why does pubbies play it?...

I am quite pleased that both of my RP maps have made your list. You are missing out on one thing however, at the time of its making, Lathirion was different from Feyvern in a number of ways, things like custom teleports, terrain obviously. I've updated them so it's understandable that you don't like how similar they are. Though one word of caution: if you think that the "console" and units being similar makes the RP's the same, well, they barely matter in an RP map. It's really the player and not the map that makes an rp, which means that terrain is basically the only thing that makes rp's different. (That and the medieval/future/modern/ect theme, of course)

Technically, most warcraft 3 custom games are based off Starcraft maps. A perfect example being Dota; that game was based off Aeon of Strife long time ago. Only thing is that because wc3 has good hero features that it faired quite well.


I liked Raccoon city. It was actually one of my favorite maps. Not Panzer's best map though IMO (I enjoyed normandy a little more.)

Lathirion and Feyvern have nothing to do with Zombies.

He didn't put them under zombies.

The infinite number of Luuuuuuurrrrrkkkkeeeerrrrrrr d!!!!!!!!!!!!!! maps really get on my nerves. They're all the same: Build Lurkers, kill stuff. For that matter, defense maps in general, although there habrbeen some good ones.

Indeed, Racoon city is quite a good map, but it's overrated doesn't always mean it's bad. It can also mean overhosted, which is quite true.

Raccon City is quite a bit overrated, but it's not half bad actually

Why are Naruto battles? Is it just your bias for the show? I see some well-triggered Naruto battle maps, like MotS and 8.5 and even GoN. I do admit that they have been over-made ad hosted.. And that quote supported nothing to your point.
