The sword and the faith

Looking for an anti-virus that runs little or no background processes. I don't need any real time protection shit, just something that scans and removes, and doesn't have any extra shit running in the back. If it isn't scanning, it shouldn't be running anything.

Anyone know of such a program?

Avast. All it is is a scanner. Or McAfee Stinger. Stinger is a bit more limited, however.

None.

I believe I've had Avast and it does have processes running when not being asked to do anything.

Yeah, they also have a suite, here's just the scanner: Avast Virus Cleaner apparently it's pretty limited too though.. You could have AVG and just disable the real-time stuff and maybe remove it from startup.

Hmm, come to think of it, you could also try AVPersonal and Kaspersky VRT

Uh, AVG, disable everything but the virus scanner, and delete the startup crap. You can do this with ANY antivirus.

I'm pretty sure Spyware Doctor does that, just locates and removes. Although it also provides a firewall that constantly scans and removes, and has a lot more options than just that. It's very helpful and might be what you're looking for. Other than Spyware Doctor, I have no idea.

Definatley not limited like other ones.

None.
