The War of Emperium v60d

Author: Lighthalzen (who is not me)

Overview:
The War of Emperium is a unique map of its own genre. Based on Ragnarok Online, gives back every single aspect of the original game. Genre of the map is RPG with Arena with some DotA, meaning you have to level up, but it's an arena because you can kill others while you're levelling, and when the Timer reaches Zero, then you have to fight for the castle, and destroy then keep the Emperium. The game is won when your force has the Castle / Emperium for 3 turns. The map greatly revolves around using skills, and upgrading your stats, building up your build and your character.
There are 6 stats: STR, AGI, VIT, INT, DEX, LUK. You can read more about these next to the file.

Heroes:
Knight (Zergling) - High HP unit that uses its massively hitting, fast attacks to destroy everything. Not as fast as the Assassin, but still a rather fast unit.

Alchemist (Infested Kerrigan) - A rather interesting unit, as it has rather hard-hitting skills and can create Potions even on the battlefield. Makes it hard to be killed, and somewhat hard to use.

Hunter (Ghost) - A supporter unit that has a Falcon, and Traps. It is a hard to use unit because INT upgrades its Falcon, and DEX upgrades the Ghost itself. It is good against Mages, because it can easily break the Safety Wall.

Assassin (Hero Zergling) - Low HP unit that revolves around its fastness. Has 2 AGI stats by start, and can destroy Mages easily, as with its fastness it can easily break their castings.

Blacksmith (Firebat) - A rather good offensive character, because it is powerful against enemy units. Its fast hard-hitting skills, and self-supporting skills make it a character that is hard to be killed. However, some of his skills (like Scout) use minerals (money).

Wizard (Medic) - A unit that is almost the most devastating unit in the game. For those who can use its skills easily and know how to use him, it's easy to support all his teammates with its very powerful offensive skills. However, a Sage can easily break it apart, if he has the right teammates. Also, it cannot attack the Emperium without a Guardian, which is a disadvantage.

Sage (Tassadar Templar) - A unit that is VERY hard to use, and not really powerful. It is the best anti-Wizard and anti-Caster in the game, though. It can break apart the casting of each skill, and break the Safety Wall, and higher level skills of Wizard.

Rogue (Jim Raynor Marine) - Supporter and offensive character at the same time. Its HP Setting skills and powerful offensive skills make it rather effective against human players. Has relatively low HP though.

Bard / Dancer (Ghost / Kerrigan Ghost) - Supporters and offensive attackers that can stun enemies from a distance, making them fearful against some classes.

Monk (Hero Zealot) - A character that is hard to use unless you know the actual game.

Crusader (Firebat) - A short-range offensive character, but is also a support because it can Heal.

Priest (Zealot) - Supporter Character, with many skills that make people's lives a lot easier - like faster mana gain, higher damage, healing, and stuff like that.

What program does this map use for protection?

There's one glaring omission. This is an azn map, so you can't actually read anything aside from a few unit names. Not worth it for me.

Jan 1 2009, 11:34 pm Zhuinden Post #4

I think it uses the CMP Debugger thing, but I don't know. Also, even though this is an azn map, it's easily playable if you know how it works.

I somewhat find it funny that no one cares about this map even though it's a lot better made map than Temple Siege or whatever, it's better than most american maps. Shame. I truly am disgusted of BNET and the SC Community now, that no one actually cares about this map, and they all play TS. Ugh.

Well, maybe if people could read the strings we may give the map more of a chance.

I see you host this on Battle.net sometimes. Your game is titled, "Staredit.net Best Map," or something similar to that. You talk about how all other maps similar to your's are bad and your map is supreme. You sound like a jerk and overly confident therefore I don't plan on playing this or any other map made by you unless you change your attitude and become a little more nice.

An unbiased oppinion is always needed.

First of all, the creator is an obsessive freak who updates his maps all too much (I think he released 3 versions in one day).

Now, the game itself is geniune. Once you learn the uses of the triggering, it is a great map.
HOWEVER, after constant play, it gets boring. Couple games here and there isn't so bad though.

Maybe it would be a TS-killer, if it was in ENGLISH.

I agree.
After a while, this game does become dull.
Especially when someone keeps on pwning you and you need to keep on waiting for like 30 secs to respawn.
This game is repeatitive and incredibly annoying ( english please :( ) since sometimes u have no idea what your doing.

Thanks for constantly dissing my map, just because it's popular (wh00t) :P

Allow me to elaborate on the cons:
- For most people, it is too frustrating to learn how everything works. Even for me, I gave up after three rounds of timer being down... I sorta understand, it's like Hero Wars, but obviously better, where after each timer, you have to warp and kill each other. But the spells, after trying TONS of times, were never coherent. I'm sure if there was an explanation, or at least someone that's WILLiNG to explain rather than say that I'm a noob (wow is that ever rare), then it'd be okay.
- The terrain is boring, and enemies just spawn out your ass. It isn't really an AoS type of map.
- No vision, which kinda cuts down on the competitiveness.
- Spells overuse the same units. There are no uniqueness to them. And they aren't as good as I thought a Korean map would be. They can do better. Right now, this map's spells are at my level... WHICH ISN'T ENOUGH FOR A KOREAN MAP (haha).
Let me elaborate on this =o.... You spawn a humonculus. It creates and Kills a guardian 3 times and spawns a ghost... which gets moved to your place after a while. It also turns out that some spells require the humonculus to work. My humonculus died, and i couldn't respawn it for some odd reason. I tried many combo of the SCAO, but none of them worked..........
And wow, firebat had GRIDS. like Temple Siege didn't? I just never used it excessively for effects, but with v1.5 i used quite a few to balance things out. Unfortunately, the ones in War of Emp wasn't fancy at all :S...
Spells are removed too quickly. I made it slow, and probably in your eyes, noobish, to allow ppl to run away before getting the 2nd/3rd hit. This was done for balancing. War of Emp's counters are probably more "hard" than temple siege's.
- Gay music. I can find better music for TS, but i didn't bother, because it makes the map size way too big to make it popular. See? Everything I do focuses on popularity. All those little itty bitty details in YOUR maps I can accomplish (except for WAF.. and the Korenglish <-- lol), but it obviously takes away the gameplay. Have you ever thought about that?
- The status upgrade was cool, but very easily accomplishable. it's just some sprites. And they make no sense whatsoever. STR = strength... good... INT = intelligence (mana).. okay... it turns out that you upgrade weapons, and that's how it works.. not sure how that works, but i'm guessing you're attacking some other units elsewhere which gives you mana when it dies. (DAMN that's actually smart! cuts down on a lot of triggering)... DEX = ????? dexterity???? EEHH wrong...(or at least, in OUR dictionary) it gives you the Next Spell. And it only costs one too :S. No point in saving for teching.
- Overall, it just a pile of confusion and shitty spell effects. I thought that, even tho I would not understand a THING They're saying, that the spells and effects and everything would be excellent, especially since you raved about it so much. But no, it sucked. Not to mention that the music loop was uneeded and imperfect, the terrain was GOD awful. Trees only had Sprites (no stumps). the Professionalism is terrible. Normally, you'd expect good prof from korean games, but this one is awful. No redeeming factors whatsoever. Best SC map my ass <_<. I'd rather play Blood Pressure Marathon (ironically also made by koreans ^.^.. see? they COULD do better). At least that one was innovative.

Seriously, if you want this map to be fun and popular, then translate everything. O wait, they protected it. Tough luck for u. And if you seriously think this tops TS... Even if there was a perfectly translated version, I would still rate it lower than TS. Not because i'm biased, but when an "american" (altho i'm azn) map beats a korean map in professionalism, it fails. .. And wow.. humonculus. LOL ... Yes, i know manga/animes are a large part of the japanese culture.. but aren't they koreans? .. and that spell sucked anyway. The ghost kept moving and blocking the infested kerrigan.
PHAIL!!! >.<"

----- And since I like to step into the grey zone. Yes, TS has a lot of bad stuff too. You can nitpick all you want, but the values that I hold on to in a map is not present in War of Emp at all. So, you CAN consider this post to be extremely biased ^.^

Why'd you think there's an entire degree for every university called "MARKETING" ??
And no, it was not a lot better made than Temple Siege. This is serious, and not a biased comment at all. It is NOT better than TS.

In all fairness, the map itself is hard to read, but once you get the hang of it, its not so bad.

The ghost that appears is a casting limit, in which, if broken, your casting stops. (This is somewhat of an easier way to do "LOL CASTING FAILED", becuase the enemy can purposly negate the spell).

Boring Terrain, yea, I won't lie, it sucks.

Certain spells, like the guardian attack, are so the guardian attacks faster.

Personally, I have yet to seen the overusage of units, but I'll give you the benefit of doubt.

Spells being removed quickly make them look like spells. :P

I like the music, why don't you. :-(

Status upgrades work in a matter like so:

There are Six Atributes.
Four of them work together, and two are separate.

Dex and Str (wow, expected) give off attack and HP upgrades bi-polar. Meaning, 3 Dex = 1 attack up, and equivilant to 1 Str attack up.
And on and on And on.

Frankly, I don't fully like either of the two maps because they have flaws and it gets boring after a while. Both maps can be improved. Both maps can be loved. Both maps can be hated. But one map has an impossible protection unit.

Yeah.. okay.. I was a bit abrupt. I just can't someone talk bad things to my baby :C....

You're right, each map has their own flaws... (and they both get boring after a while :-( :-( :-( its true)

I still don't like the music tho. :stfu: . It sounds so... gay.. in a happy way... doesn't fit "the WAR of emperium"

Oh, and the status thing.. that's interesting =o... Still seem unecessarily complicated to me.. but w/e :P.

Dam that protection unit :flamer:

I must agree that the skills in TWoE are not exactly as fancy as I always say in korean maps they are. That's because TWoE uses a weird Wait Time (it used Always Wait 50 Miliseconds in v37c) and so gridding like that doesn't really work, and I guess you can't use "Bash" with an effect that lasts for 8 seconds. Yes, it could be cooler, but I think Meteor Storm and Storm Gust do what they have to, and it's still better than create unit dark templar, wait 5000, kill unit dark templar, preserve. The point here is that it is fast, and it still hits. It is perfectly timed that way. I don't even know how.

Even though I did explain the stats next to the map, it works like this:
STRength gives characters that use melee attacks weapon upgrades, and it also increases the amount of potions you can hold.
AGILity gives you a chance of evasion (toggle invice) and at level 3 6 9 you get a "faster attack", meaning a unit spawns near you at times when you are near an enemy and it attacks.
VITality gives you armor upgrade and max hp increase (duh).
DEXterity gives you weapon upgrade at level 3 6 9, gives weapon upgrade for archer types, and lowers casting time (the ghost).
INTelligence increases your max mana, your mana gain, and skill damage.
LUcK gives you a chance (I think +3% for each level) to do a Critical Hit (with the type of attack your AGI gives you).

I must agree that the terrain made by Western people tends to be a lot better. Temple Siege's terrain is pretty good, actually. But I still dislike that game's gameplay, and I prefer this, although it gets boring considering there are only a handful of people who understand this game, and the other people don't join. But that's because I always told them "dude, go to Staredit.net, download the map from there, it takes you 1,5 minutes instead of 7, and you can also read the guide", and none of them did. I was afkhosting it a lot and the download counter never increased. So I believe it is NOT my fault.

Regarding the "Homunculus", the game is STILL based on Ragnarok Online, and the Alchemist could summon a Homunculus, it was an add-on that was made after Lighthalzen (the place, not the author) was added. D u H.

It certainly isn't the best map (marketing ftw heheh~ although I got bored of owning too many newbies), but whenever I host Athlit (which IS an AoS type of map, with a korean map name) or Evil's Respiration (also AoS, everything except the displaytexts are in english thanks to me, on this site), Devil's Wing (dodging game which was kinda easy for me but still looks frickin' awesome) and a few other maps, people actually at least try to join THIS one because the map name is in english. Even if I hosted Athlit, no one I mean NO ONE ever joins. Soooo...

I never actually heard the music of this map. No kidding. I have my sounds off.

Even though you say your map is a lot more professional (though the triggers in this map are pretty much undecipherable, therefore hard to rig, REALLY), I still hate your "stat system". :P

aaand...
