SCMDraft Crash due to Locations and Otherwise

SCMDraft would regularly crash for me either upon CREATING a location or (more commonly) RENAMING a location, until I deleted trigedit from my plugins folder (the error box's title was trigedit, I deduced it was the source of the problem).

However, 1) I would still like to USE trigedit, but at this point I can't, and 2) SCMDraft still crashes when I go to the String editor, every time.

Furthermore, on some maps that I open (ones I didn't make) it occasionally crashes immediately when I click on the "Locations" button.

What's the deal with all this crashing? Thanks!!

P.S. first post!

Hello

Did you opend the map with starforge before and saved it again? if yes -> GG*

*starforge corrupts maps (it also done that to mine)

Please report errors in the Staredit.Network forum.

No, I didn't open anything with Starforge. Although maybe the maps that would crash for me upon clicking "Location" had been previously opened by Starforge, and then saved.

Still, why won't my String editor work? And why does trigedit cause locations to be un-renamable?

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

do you have the newest version?
(beta version of 0.8.0, visit www.stormcoast-fortress.org)

how many locations do you have?

Dec 22 2008, 2:54 pm Vi3t-X Post #5

1) Location has to be minimum 1x1 pixel.
2) Over string limit
3) Over location limit (not sure).
4) Editor Bug, save dump file, reload. Try it again, and if it doesn't work, hunt for backups.

This happened to me once. I placed location number 126 and when i clicked it scmdraft crashed. So i tried it again and it crashed. Then i placed the location on a different spot and it worked.

Hmm.. I'm guessing this isn't as common of a problem as I thought it was.

Well, the location IS bigger than 1 pixel, I'm not over the string limit (can't even open string editor), not over the location limit (there are ~80 locations), and I've tried reinstalling from a number of different mirrors.

Is the map a .scm or .scx? Because .scm only has 64 locations, I can't remember if that was patched or not, however, even if it was, you might not be using an updated SC.

My SC is updated.

It's a .scm, but it works fine. It's just only playable by Brood War due to having >64 locations. Basically functions as an .scx

I see you !

If it still happens with this version: http://www.stormcoast-fortress.net/temp/Scmdraft%202%20080.zip
and you can reliable make it crash with a specific map, give me the map, and tell me exactly how to make it crash, and I will try to fix this. I have never been able to make this happen nor has any alpha tester.

If its random with the same map, I'll have to code up a debug version that does logging.

This has nothing to do with trigedit, trigedit just included the code which catches the crash and makles a custom window pop up.

You really want to find that bug eh.
SCMDraft crashed when I was experimenting with the images array, but I don't think I can reproduce.

In any case I would really like to see sprite handling fixed(sprites as units more specifically).

I'd also like to see full race selections, full owner selections, elimination of several unused settings(players 9-12 owner/race), include all used unit properties(x/y, valid flags, unit relation and "serial"), exclude all unused sprite flags, include other sprite properties(x/y). Would finally eliminate having to use Starforge or a Hex Editor, because of SCMDraft's lack of some abilities.

Are you using the latest version? Check the site, as there is another 0.8.0 that is slightly more updated, it still has the funky flags and changing ownership and updating sprites is still a bit messy, but it at least handles how they look the same way that StarForge does, since I bugged SI to change it that way :P

That's what I was looking for.

Player Owner and player Race fails in all editors. Owner 0x02 (occupied human slot) and Race 0x06 (Forced Random) are among some left out. IMO you should at least make it index capable like colours. Players 9-12 never change, so their settings are just a big fat waste of space.

👻 👾 👽 💪

scm can have more than 64 locations (post-1.04, which I'm sure everyone has)... Vanilla SCM can't.
Also I've never had StarForge corrupt a map. (<3 SF)

Back* from the grave

all of the crossed-out boxes there do absolutely nothing [in case anybody was wondering]. in Scmdraft, the boxes that are open are valid and closed are invalid...so its like having the starforge valid data/properties and unit data/properties condensed into a smaller box, and all the stuff that can be changed is changeable.

the reason why scmdraft has a smaller panel there is because starcraft automatically re-asserts valid/invalid properties for every unit already placed at the beginning. thats one reason why it takes so long to load some games after the mission briefing. so SI basically reduced load time on some maps and made it more understandable for the novice mapmaker.

i had a situation like this, but its somewhat different, i've always used xtra editor for triggers before i had scmdraft but when i got it, once loading that map into there it crashed, the solution was... my comments on the trigger section was soemtimes linked with the location names and unit names, thus causing crashes, i confirmed this by deleting the comments renaming the locations and renaming the unit names etc, this worked after :O well idk hope this helped

What do you mean by this? The valid properties are used. If the value is unchecked, it will have an effect. Unchecked values set their corresponding modifier to their default value. HP valid unchecked will default to 100%, so you can eliminate the field completely(set to 0).

I've tested these out.
