I am now to the final stages creation for the actual gameplay. Basicly Im just finalizing AI and balance. I want to release this to get input, see what you guys think to make this better and more balenced.

Here is the test version, everything is pretty much how i want it, except AI is slow and is too easy, and Terran v Klendathu is probably unbalanced (i cant tell, i havent gotten to pvp yet)

The SC version is 1.15.1


All three AI work, all the interfaces work and i dont think it crashes anywhere.

What i need you guys to help me with, is anywhere you see something that could be improved (balance, spelling, graphics) tell me, and i will take it into consideration. Ive gotten to the point were ive played this so much that its boring, so i want to let it out so you guys can help me improve it.

I included 2 maps, a fastest map, and the first campaign (not totally finished but its the basic idea)

I still have to finish the campaign, the overloard gaphic, some upgrade names, and then maybe ill have custom sounds and portraits, but those arent really important to gameplay anyway.

So again, i would like to hear any negitive or possitive opinion, or just suggestions on improvement. Thanks!

Story:
In the future, humanity has come across a race of giant, vicious bugs, the Klendathu. When the Klendathu send a metor that destroys the metropolis of Buenos Aires, the Federation sends its fleet on a campaign to the Klendathu System to exterminate the bugs. The Federation quickly sees that they are out numbered and out powered. This war has now become a fight for survival on both sides, one or the other must be wiped out.

Starship Troopers was a movie made in the late 90s, I remember it from my childhood and I recently rented it from netflix, and I though how awsome of a Starcraft mod it could be. This will be a fairly simple mod, only 2 races, only afew units, and not many upgrades or special abilities. I will use custom Gmax models that I make for the units, and screenshots, sounds, and movie clips from the original movie for this mod.

I have made a medium conversion before, I know basic GRP, datedit, ICEscript, AI, firegraft and TBLpad editing; but there are many new concepts I want to implement to this mod, and I will need alot of help. This is a mod of the first Starship Troopers, all Heros and units will be from the original move.

--The Federation:
The Federation uses starships to support ground infantry invasions, their main weapon is a soldier and his weapon.

Units: (Names and weapons are not final)

>Federation Builder - Collects minerals and builds and repairs buildings. (This is a made up units, will look something like SCV)
Weapon: Plasma Cutter

>Federation Roughneck - A basic soldier, the marine of Starcraft, alone it doesn't stant a chance, but in a group is extremely deadly.
Weapon: Assault Riffle/Shotgun (I would like there to be a switch weapon mode button)

>Federation Specialist - A mechanized soldier, weilds a small rocket launcher and will have the ability to fire small Nukes.
Weapon: Rocket Launcher
Special: Nuclear Missle

>Federation Dropship - A quick manuverable transport that drops the Roughnecks into battle. (Air)
Weapon: none
Special: Transporting

>Federation Cruiser - A massive battle ship, slow moving and vonerable, but extremely powerfull. (Air)
Weapon: Ground Bombardment

Buildings:
The Federations main defence will be to build a base. Players will beable to build walls to protect their buildings and units. There will be 8 different walls, one for each corner and each side (and possibly a gate). There will be afew other buildings, command center, baracks, and a radio station to call in dropships and cruisers.

Gathering:
Minerals will be gathered from rocks, or from building a mine on mineral caves (vespine geiser ) Minerals will be more like iron and platinum versus crystals. No vespine gas will be used.



--The Klendathu:
The Klendathu are controlled by a local brain bug, the minions protect the brain and destoy all threats to its well being.

Units: (Names and weapons are not final)

>Klendathu Larva - Collects minerals.
Weapon: Pincers

>Klendathu Warior- Makes up most of the Klendathu swarm, moves fast and kills its prey easily. They are relativly weak, but can easily take on one or three humans.
Weapon: Claws
Special: Burrowing

>Klendathu Beetle - A large bug, heavily armored and dangerous. It can target flying object with its plasma from a large distance, the plasma is allmost a one hit kill if it hits its target.
Weapon: Flamethrower (Medium Range)
Air Weapon: Plasma Battery (Extremely Long range, but very slow)
Special: Burrowing

>Kelndathu Dragon - Fast flying dragonfly-like bug, instantly kills infantry with its claws. (Air)
Weapon: claws

Buildings:
The Klendathu will not have any buildings or creep, but only a single Brain Bug. The bug will beable to evolve to a larger form to allow for higher unit capacity and more options. The brain will beable to move very slowly and it will produce units. (I plan to have options for the 4 bugs, when clicked an egg will apear by the Brain and it will hatch after a while.

Gathering:
Minerals will be gathered from rocks with larva, they will bring them back to the brain bug.


Here are some previews of unit models I have made. They arent too detailed but as you can see the size they will be in starcraft are to small to see much detail anyway.

Here are the walls, as you can see they are pretty flexable, they conect pretty well (exept the side walls to corners) These buildings are the only buildings, (plus a geiser mine if i can figure it out) Command center, barracks, acadamy (infantry ups), starport, control tower-not add on (air ups)


These are the turrets, (this pic is a little worse looking than the current ones) They wont spin constantly, but they do point in the direction they shoot and will also have fring frames.

Uhh yeah!
I also already had the idea of a starship-troopers mod!
I love the game and Film, good luck on modding with it!
Hope you wont hang it up because I would love to play the mod for a while :)

Look awesome! I loved the movie, and it would be nice to have a decent mod for it. The only thing I have to say is to add team color to your models.

Just a few questions:
1: What 3D modeling program are you using?
2: Any chance you will make that Federation Marine GRP available to us? I'd really like to get my hands on a new infantry GRP, considering they are really rare to come across these days.

Gmax, and ya all GRPS will be available for use. I havent actually made the marine into the GRP yet, which will be hard but hopefully it turns out pretty smooth.

Ya i was thinking doing seige mode, i also wanted to do a mode thing with the dropship, you would place a landing location for it and it would have to be clear and then you could only unload if it was on the ground, but thats probably not very possible.

As for the units, this is going to be a simple mod and anyway, ive got everything for the Klendathu, and then i could add a sniper or a bomber for the federation but i dont want to make human air way too good.

You can use the normal siege mode for the Roughneck and use the Edmund Duke siege mode for the Dropship.

You must design additional units!

The bug guys could use a transport, and both sides could use a tank unit and/or a base raider. The bug guys could also use some kind of slow-moving defensive unit. A medic unit for the humans might be good. And some spellcasters plz?

I don't know, allmost all that stuff is pretty much what i dont want to have. For one, unlike normal sc, i dont want both sides to have equal individual units, but equal overall armies. The only thing is that some maps require flying and all that... The bugs are going to be very weak in air, but their anti air from the beetles will be a one or two hit kill on the human air.

The bug guys slow moving defencive unit is the beetle.

I thought about medic, but with medics plus the buildable walls defences would be way to easy to make.

Spell casters, i personally hate them, i guess to follow the story you could have phycics but that would be kinda lame. The brain might have some mind control thing or something.


Sorry to put down your ideas, but its just that those are some of the key things im trying to get away from.

Well, having like 4 units per side will still be kinda fail...

Here are some ideas I had that don't go against what you said you don't want:

Terran ideas:
Fire tank: Imagine a Siege Tank mixed with a firebat. A short-ranged infantry support unit. Concussive damage.
APC: A really fast, high-armored land unit with a transport ability. Good for getting your slower units in and out of battle quickly.
Sniper: Has a really friggen' long range, high damage, and high cooldown.
Psychic: A marine with a psychic attack. His attacks damages the target's mind, weakening their armor and attack. (Basically Acid Spores.)

Bug ideas:
Raider: A fast, low HP unit that can stun enemies. (Maelstrom/Lockdown. Maybe you could make it only stun builder units.) Explosive damage, high damage and cooldown. Basically, a base raider.
Restorer: Uses Heal and Restoration, and possibly Defensive Matrix. You might give it a normal attack if you want, but if so it should be pretty weak.
Mauler: Morphed from the Dragon. A kamikaze air-only attacker. (To give the bugs a dedicated air defense.)
Infester: Has a suicide mind-control attack. (Or, if that crashes SC, raise its cost and make Mind Control cost a lot of energy.) He might have a normal attack, up to you. (I'm pretty sure you are able to make mind control only usable against ground units, if you want.)

sniper i might do, its actually in the move.

Alot of these sound like cool ideas but i dont want to be just making up stuff you know? And i want this to be alot different from traditional starcraft and mods, tons of game play things are going to make it unique, and i really dont want a bunch of spell casters, personally i think they are the most useless units, nobody ever mass attacks with spell casters, and this mod is deffinatly made to have giant mass attack battles.

Sniper ill definatly think about though, although making another walking ground GRP will be quite tough

I've tried making a ground transport unit (APC) in Starcraft before. When a group of these units are told to unload somewhere, they all crowd around in a single spot and flail around and die before even unloading anything. APC's in-game would be horrible transports (unless if you can fantastical micro skillz) and would only be good for cannon fodder.

For the Dropship, you could make it a building with Lift-Off. In FireGraft, you can change the speed of Lift-Off buildings, so the Dropship could still be decently fast.

Make it so you can only select one APC at a time.

Make it so that the "Unload all" button is not available when more than one is selected.

Make them have to use "Siege mode" before they can load/unload.

Or something else I haven't thought of yet.
