Alright I know this may be a n00bish question but I've never used Custom Score before. How do you modify the score of each unit you kill?

Each unit you kill has a set kill score value that you cannot modify. Zlings are 50, marines 100, hydras 350, ghosts 250, etc. etc... I wouldn't know where the full list is on this website now. Custom score can only be modified through trigger, so there are really two options for you if you don't want to just use regular kill score..

1. If you only have 1 unit or the instance is that you can only kill 1 unit at a time, you can do it so (with hyper triggers) you have lots of triggers for every unit, looking like: Current player kills score is exactly 50: Add x custom score. Current player kill score is exactly 100: add y custom score. Most units have different values, and you can do whatever you want.

2. If you have a situation where multiple units can be killed at the same time (95% of the time), you could always just use a ratio to make it not look exactly the same as other maps. Such as, current player kill score is atleast 25, add 10 custom score subtract 25 kill score.. atmost 24 atleast 10, add 4 custom score subtract 10 kill score.. etc. This is a really dumb idea though, with extra effort just so it looks different.. in all honesty, just use kills or kill score, it's perfectly not noobish to just utilize what blizzard gave you.

If you aren't killing multiple units at once, using kill score could work perfectly with hyper triggers, another good way is just to detect if there is at least 1 kill score then set it back to 0 and give the minerals, if you want the kill scores, here they are, from here on I'm just going to link people to this post:
