How many people would be interested in gathering sunday night just to play melee (on any non-money professional or SEN melee maps).

If we get enough people we can even setup tournaments whenever people are interested.

The sword and the faith

I'd rather just get mod night started back up and have good matchups (1:1, 2:2) on good maps (Note: Promap =/= good map. Take a look at some of the recent Korean maps that are total shit. Real, good maps, come from places like BWMN.). I have to say I'm ridiculously bored with normal, un-modded melee.

Honestly Ex, it doesn't matter what map you play on mod night, unless the creator has specifically said otherwise.

Yes, the map matters, but the issue is a map that is balanced in unmodded might not be particularly balanced for that mod. I however think that its very possible to say that certain maps that are good for normal SC would be good for modded play, because both have units that fill the same roles in most situations. (I have yet to see a non-space-based mod that didn't have infantry, artillery, fighter ect.)

And some maps just... Suck. I don't want to play on a map with no choke and the closest expansion is three miles away and undefendable.

I really just wanted to make sure people knew this wasn't for money maps and crappy bgh games but also not for just any shitty melee map randomly made. If I were going to play on a pro map I would probably take a look at the statistics on it to see if it was balanced or not.

ie: http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/maps/159_Blue_Storm

You can see TvZ is the only crappy matchup on that map.

Whereas: http://www.teamliquid.net/tlpd/maps/162_Katrina

TvZ is the only decent matchup on this one.

For good and bad, I completely disagree with you Ex. And for mods and stuff. I don't care what the hell you play on as long as the mod is cool. And with SEN, the stats from TeamLiquid matters not, since skill levels differ way too much. And it's not that high. It's like comparing 1 and 4 but its still 4 times 1.

Excalibur, those maps look nice and all but they are all pretty much the same map. Between the 7 there is very little variety in gameplay.

EDIT: With the exception of Voices and Whoosh. Those are different.

BeDazed, its just the overall balance of the map that matters. No one wants to play a map that obviously favors Terran's turtling because it wouldn't make for a fun match to anyone.

Oct 8 2008, 1:28 pm BeDazed Post #13

That wouldn't matter if the Terran did it slow. And I am like... *maps covered with bases. Should I either make a ton of scouts and cover its base or make 100 overlords and cover its base. Or should I just make 100 gates and pump out dragoons endlessly so that it is overwhelmed to death? On a side note, Terran can turtle on about any map thats not a barren field.

The sword and the faith

If you want to see BWMN's more experimental maps, just ask. I wanted to throw some of their solid ones out there. Whoosh is an odd map though, I should go find Chemistry, that's a weird map. O.o

Hey I'm all about experimental/different maps. Half a decade of LT/Luna does a lot to a person. :O

Btw, LT/Luna and that map I can't remember the name of should be banned. :P (not that they aren't great maps, they are, its just they're overplayed)

Oct 8 2008, 10:13 pm BeDazed Post #16

Its been long since LT and Luna's curtains fell. Python's curtains are starting to fall too. And they were all great maps because of the plays they encourage.

Python, thats the one. It doesn't seem like theres a lot of people interested, sadly. :(

Why not do it old School Like Killing fields or Tarsonis orbital. Jeweled river or some of thoughts. I Love Non Money and Play always random blizzard because I feel they are the maps that are best layed out and well known other than some of the new ones I mean come on. LT, Luna , Phtyon are great maps not gunna lie but seriously I get tired atfer 55 games later....pfft I want variety. For reals.....Bein melee gaming for 4 years and random maps are for the win XD

just my opinion Don't jump the gun lol

I'm interested

We should have an outside person pick an obscure map, host in ums so no1 can preview, and let the unbiased chaos begin.

Oct 9 2008, 7:25 am BeDazed Post #20

You guys could try the new maps thats been out since forever on ICCup.
