Idea/Rules:

I was curious what everyone's working on currently in terms of UMS (including UMS melee). If this isn't a good forum to post this in, please move it... wasn't sure. The idea is that we list out our generally current maps we're working on and any ideas we recently came up with, and give a 1-4 line approx. description of what they're intended to be. If you want more details added, please put it below the list so we can skim =P.

Later on, we can add progress reports by editing our posts, so that there is only one post per person in here. If you really wish to comment on someone's map, I encourage you to make a new thread titled "Comments on Our UMS Ideas" or something similar, and link this topic to it. My hope for this thread is to inspire people to be more creative by seeing others' basic ideas, and just for fun. Keep it clean and easy to read.

If moderation has a problem with having this here, move it wherever. Also, If you're okay with the rules, please delete posts that are merely comments. PM me with questions about how to post if really necessary. If this thread becomes something well-liked, then a sticky would be awesome, wherever you see fit.

Mine:

Serious/Current:
  • RPG (working name: Angry Earth): (co-op project with aphtershox) Mythical/Political with storyline/twists. Basically, I intend to use the most out of units by not giving them names (heroes may or may not get one). I intend to use a lot of music using little space (see Music Composition in SC using "note" wavs ), and have an interesting spell and physical experience system. The story revolves around political conflicts between races/cities who will go to war, and the world becomes corrupt, causing the planet to reject them, which may or may not require multiple episodes/maps.

  • Alternate Melee (unnamed for now): I am attempting to give a significant alteration to the tech tree for each original race without making it too awkward. Some awkwardness is required, I feel, but i'll do my best to keep it to a minimum. The map I am using currently is (4)Python 1.3 (obs) with credit still there. I am attempting building switching and unit switching occasionally, as well as doing some weird things, like somewhat frequent Protoss shield recharging near main base for early game, having Zerg be based mostly on flying, and Terrans having having flexible tech switching (all are subject to change).

Non-Serious/Working little on:
  • Moar Lings Plz: a silly co-op defense map where you fight waves of lings, have shared resources on your team (so 1-player still stands a chance). The feel will likely be similar to melee. Progress is nil. Moar Lings Plz map

  • Next gen Nexus Destroyers: co-op effort with Brontobyte which hasn't started. EUD's will be involved. Considering the competition, I may leave it at that until some progress is made. I have made quite a lot of progress on my own series of tweaks, but while the beta is intact, my computer fried and shortly after the forums that got a lot of input and testing done suddenly disappeared. (For that beta version, perfectly playable and balance basically done, check my profile/contributions.)

  • Nexus Destroyers AI version off of my last beta... Basically for fun, I had began an AI for one comp on the south team to fight against. Its progress is fairly minimal and stupid, but it can be pretty annoying if you are "fair" to it and kill all its units. (In my profile if you'd like to try it out... only counters left-side-picked units basically for now.)

Anything Abandoned (give us?) or Finished (link us?) that you'd really like to give attention:
  • Missile Command Beta - kinda ignored now... It gets really hard earlier than I intended it to. It's still kind of fun though. co-op 1-4 players (more players = less lives). You use a vulture to aim with mines, and it fires a missile to that spot. You intercept enemy missiles with your missile's explosion. Try not to destroy each other's missiles... or you may need to refresh things with a beacon on the left. (Check my profile for this. It's playable for up to 21 levels I believe... every 5th is bonus, and there's cheats if you look.)

  • Domination - Basically finished, but does not play well without 3v3 or 4v4 because the map is large. 1v1 is probably never a great idea. I encourage people to edit the terrain or more and use the same trigs/locs etc so that there can be more arenas to fight on. That said, you pick 1 unit, which has spells and upgrades, and you take territories. It's based off domination mode in Unreal Tournament. Details here: http://www.staredit.net/?file=648

  • more to come...

So that's that. Release anything you feel comfortable about, add more later, etc. gl hf.

EDIT: People, you miss the point on the last 2 categories. "Non-serious/working little on" is a dual category... and in other words, it means maps you're not "seriously working on a lot" or "not taking too seriously but might be a good concept," okay? And try not to just put "tons" for anything. This is for information, not vagueness. We don't want to know every map you've ever attempted to make. We just want to know interesting things, and whats' going to come soon. For abandoned, You could also list it if you though someone else might want to work on it. And please note FINISHED is with abandoned. In other words, these are maps that are not being worked on currently, but are interesting, whether they are finished or not.

Serious/Current
RPG template: Basically a system for hero upgrading/enemy creation/spells/building entrance ect. that when finished will only required a map maker to place buildings on a map, and make their own storyline triggers. Basically the same idea that any first person shooter game goes through today. :P
Lobster Mobsters: Mobsters who come in to Bricken City to steal some handy guns. But upon hearing of a bigger operation, decide to take it to the next level.
Super top secret SC2 brainstorming thing: It's just so cool, I might need a good 3D artist at some point.
Non-serious/Working little on
Several (very) random maps.
Can't think of them right now though, I usually pick them up and finish them within an hour or so. For instance the one in my sig, or several of them that have been posted in the map showcase forum.
Anything Abandoned
Oh yeah, tons.

My main two maps is Billiards and Myojin's Cave Rpg.

Billiards- I'm using a defiler's Dark Swarm to aim the cue ball and I'm going to use a collision formula for the balls and rails. Your options are hitting to cue ball in the bottom, bottom left, bottom right, top left, top right, and top, how hard to hit it, and curving the ball.I may also add a trick shot mode. It's for two people only.

Myojin's Cave Rpg- I'm using a version of FRAGS for my map as a movment, attack, and gun switching. I'm also using units for walls for a random maze for replayablility.
When the players finish the maze it randomizes again. So it seems like they go into another room. I plan on making over 100 rooms and many bosses. It's for four people.

Current:
The Battle of Breach: DotA/Aos map. The story is that the Zerg are building a "weapon" of some sort on an uninhabited planet known as Breach, but are opposed by a Terran/Protoss force lead by Raynor and Tassadar. It will have A LOT of heroes, including some I don't think anyone has done anything similar to before.

Unnamed Puzzle Map: The player (Civilian) explores an abandoned Dominion research facility. The AI that was controlling the facility has gone insane and directs the facility's internal defenses against the player. What makes it interesting in that the player finds an AI robot (Probe or SCV, not sure yet) that can do all sorts of things by building stuff - eg. swap places with things, push things at a range, etc. (I think I explained that badly...)

Not working on:
Fantastic Machine: A puzzle-thing with an advanced physics engine. The goal is to get a 'ball' (Command Center) from one Beacon to the other. You do things like place various objects that interact with each other and the "walls" (Supply Depots), but you can't directly control anything. I'm planning to set it up so players can create their own levels and share them. (How the people will store/transmit levels is a problem.)

public Archon(Templar x, Templar y) {
x = null; y = null;} }

Serious:

1. Rifle Map: It seriously will take 2 more hours to finish this one. Losing.. Motivation.. It didn't turn out amazing, though, truthfully, only worth 3-4 plays :( Rifle!

2. Ships Map: this is the one that probably will NOT be star wars themed. TassadarZeratul and Kyleis1337 are helping me on it. It will hopefully turn out really sweet. We are like 1% done though and progress is moving like a turtle. Could be several months now. Build-A-Ship Workshop

3. Defend Your Castle by XGen Studios: (Starcraft version by me of course) But if you have ever played this, it's the EXACT same thing except you use a queen to saproling guys instead of picking up guys and throwing them. Then after you cast one broodling you run our of energy and when the broodlings are created they are promptly destroyed and the queen is deselected and is given 100% energy again. So that makes it a little hard. Also you are on a team so if one guy dies you are all screwd. Other than that it's just like the original. Progress on this is stopped but i plan to pick it up again. No link currently as it is only about 5% done. Link to Original Game by XGen

Non-serious:

What's the point?
Abandoned:
Um nothing.. I like to follow through..

Serious:
- Time Down- Meh, nothing special. I did figure out a good way to record and resimulate when a spell is squelched prematurely though.
Maps in Design but currently not in Production:
- A special map of sorts with an emphasis on customization
- Another time related map of sorts (with completely separate mechanics) that is much unlike either of the former.

I realized I don't want to talk about them much. I feel like I make a commitment if I do. Just wait and see what happens, I guess.

War Map (working name Helm's Deep vBean): Typical Helm's Deep map with extended terrain, accurate numbers based on the book, and slightly overpowered heroes (incredibly weak compared to others maps). Features include a continuous mass of units, options for heroes to climb ladders, rather strict adherence to the numbers off wikipedia (only 1 elf was really there).

RPG/Adventure Map (working name Special Forces something): Storyline would be something like an experiment gone awry on a distant badlands planet, which awakens the native zerg units already on the planet. Support for infesting kerri/duran would be included. and other things.
Of the sparkling wines, the most famous is Perth Pink. This is a bottle with a message in, and the message is 'beware'. This is not a wine for drinking, this is a wine for laying down and avoiding.

Another good fighting wine is Melbourne Old-and-Yellow, which is particularly heavy and should be used only for hand-to-hand combat.

Okay I'm gonna break my own rule here, because so many seem to disregard it and I don't wanna make another topic just to bring to your attention (if it'd even work) something like this:

It says very clearly in the first post that this thread is One-Post-Per-Person only. If it was only one or two, so be it, but none of you seem to give a damn. Is this such a bad request? The topic is to be a showcase of our ideas, not random stupid side-comments cuz lil-inferno can't control himself or follow the obvious trend set by everyone above him. The issue was not so much that his post was too big, but that it was not concise, and wasn't even about maps. But at least it was still UMS Ideas. Every post below that completely disregards the thread's idea, and is hence off-topic. I was hoping for something good here. I requested here that if possible, mods could delete any posts beyond someone's first here. If that's possible, please do that for my sake.

Now please everyone, try to stick to the rules posted at top. It isn't that hard. If you want someone to use a collapse box, pm them for goodness sake. And you don't need to reply with "Done." - -.

Quote from Mafia.ClansAreForGays
You don't get to set intricate rules for a topic just because you started it, you just set the topic.
Edit @ Clans: It's called a request. No, I can't make real rules, because I can't enforce them, but that doesn't mean people can't respect them, or have mods support me. I'm asking for cooperation here. That's all. I said "none of you seem to give a damn. Is this such a bad request?" Did you miss this? You don't need to post just to be an ass about it.
