So I'm finally making the switch to Cable 7mbs from my 56k dialup, it will be installed tomorrow mourning. It took a while to set in how much more awesome internetting will be, but now I don't think I can go to sleep. There's still definitely a side of me that is gonna miss it. I'm sure I'll get over that. fast.

Any1 else still on dialup?

When will you people learn that WE DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR LIVES.

Anyway, I have DSL that is split into two computers when they're both on use. So it's not 100% split.

My seventy-odd year old grandmother who lives on a lake 50 miles from the nearest town has 56k dialup.

No, seriously.

It's not that bad actually, as long as you accept that you're not going to view any videos or download any large files.

Or use meebo. It hates dial-up, and crashes all the time on it.

My grandparents also have dial-up, except when I checked the speed, it wasn't 56k, it was more like 28.8k. :P

The size of your LAN will not matter unless you are trying to process multiple connections simultaneously.

I remember I was so happy when my mom told me we were getting DSL. Before that we had an internet line which shared the line with the telephone, so you couldn't call while being on internet (we called it 'modem'. The other kind that most people had, which was just the same, but didn't block the telephone we called 'ISDN'). You paid a price for every minute you were online. Sometimes I paid my mom, which is in charge of the "technical" stuff in the house(as my dad is crap on such stuff :P ), to get access to internet so I could play Starcraft. So, during fall 2004 we finally got it. Right now I doubt I could live without it :)

You could've just said, "We had a modem," and we would've understood. :wtfage: EVERYONE had a modem.

That's why I was so happy to be rid of it. I have a friend that I used to play SC with a lot, and without the modem, I could call him and be like, "Hey, get on Starcraft. I'm already in the channel. LET'S PLAY MATRIX D 4 WAY 3 RACE!" This was also before I could figure out how they got all three races on one player. :P
