Using the Null forum to post a welcoming topic will not be easily discovered by a new member. Even if they do do that, people will just respond with "We have a <link to welcome thread> for this!", and not welcoming them nicely to our community. A welcome forum gives an opportunity to new members to start posting and allowing regular members get to know them and welcome them nicely to the community. Clearly stated in this topic several times, and the Welcome Thread; People didn't even know about the welcome thread for a long time.

The welcome thread is useless. Its purpose would be served better by a welcome forum.

I think we should have it, just so new members aren't completely lost. I had a hard time getting to know all those on Maplantis, a welcoming would be great.
