My first map (which I do not have, it was on my old PC) was Bubble Wrap!
I scrapped it half way through after deciding that a few hundred locations for a grid would not be worth it. A mobile grid system would have helped if I knew about it. Maybe I'll start it up again.

My first map was some sort of covert operation, I honestly forget the name, but I do I have it on a floppy around the house and I could find it if I took the time. I created it in 2001.. when I was 11, so my creativity and patience was limited. There were five players who each owned a ghost with 5 health. You were to use stealthy micro and sneak across tunnels, sniping zerglings and marines. The map was quite easy with teamwork. I ultimately updated it two years later in 2003, adding an automatic difficulty setting: If there was 1 player, the enemy HP would be 20%, 2=40%, etc.

Lol my first map was so bad..

There was no terrain. all flat. and you had a bunch of zerg, like every hero too. and you had to destroy a huge terran base. there were no briefings or triggers. in short, it sucked.

too bad i don't have it any more :bleh:

My first experience using the editor was at a friends house, as I didn't own the game. I suppose that would be considered my first map, however I don't think of it as anything really.
My first completed map was Tactical Paths, which contrary to popular belief was bug free, however, when I uploaded the file onto SEN, I had apparently uploaded the wrong version, which contained numerous errors. Thinking that I had uploaded the correct file, I got rid of all my versions of the map to save space. I don't really care about the map anymore. (Although I can still say proudly that I was the first person to use extended terrain, not simply blocks, in a non-test map.)
I had completed many (6 or so) maps before this one, however this was before I had access to internet, and the only available source for them all is on a zip drive. (Which no computer uses anymore...) Most of them were basic rpg's, however I made a CTF map that I was very proud of, because it had 128 different ways to configure the CTF level, simulating a new playing field each time.

Also, I'm rather questioning if I had made more maps before this, because for some reason, I found a map that apparently I made, but had released a long time ago. (The map was incomplete and revised by someone else, but I was on the credit list as the original creator.)
I had no memory of making the map, although it seemed plausible due to the terrain style. (Yes I can tell my style apart from anyone else's.) ;)

Hah, I remember my first map! (I know I am not a mapper, but I got into it once ^^ ) It sucked, as you may imagine. The terrain was terribly square, with no doodas, and the victory/defeat conditions and storyline was completely stupid. But, of course, I was 8 or 7 at that time, what did you expect...

The first map that I made was a melee map shaped like one of the fastest ones (the star shape), except I changed unit strengths. Ghosts were pretty much invincible. The first one that wasn't for lulz was kind of like Marine Special Forces. You could choose between a marine, a ghost, and a firebat, and you had to go onto a space station and destroy all of the enemies. There were eight or nine areas (they were all rectangular and made entirely out of basic platform :P ), each with a healing beacon and a teleport beacon to go forward or back. There was a boss at the end of each one, and starting at the third platform, there would be vehicles (vultures and goliaths) and turrets (just a siege tank that couldn't leave siege mode and two missile turrets next to it) that you could take over. The problem with the vehicles was that you could only get in and out at the loading beacons. Human players would fight their way to the hatchery and the infested commander of the station at the end, and there was a lame kills to cash system for upgrades and new people. I don't think it was too bad for a first map, and I probably did it around 2001. One of my friends might still have it backed up. :shifty:

I recall making 5 maps. Three maps were made in '99, My 2 melee maps (Explore your world and Assphault) were terrible. Some start locations had no minerals (you had to find them!). They was unbalanced, and clearly made by an 11 year old. Critters abounded.

The other was a battle royale map, with no triggers, and heroes (no damage changes). There were 4 players, and whoever had Hyperion essentially won the game by killing everyone else. Also made by 11 year old rockz. I think I was -=reggie=- at that time, though.

About a year ago, I made Trickz Race, which was one of those bug maps. I think they patched it, but it used things like build goliath in air, build tank on island, mine minerals from a distance, walk through people, shoot in an area you can't see, etc...

Finally the only one I have a copy of left is a Stacked defense 5 way. It's unbalanced and impossible to win. Download if you dare.

Unlike some people, I've gotten around 4 new hard drives (and lost most of my maps) in the past decade. It's not like there were any good maps before 2003.

My first map was to be a necromancer map. You were an Unclean One with a Zergling.
I cancelled production shortly after I opened the trigger editor, I quote: "What the fuck?".

My first map was a remake of Golems. I lost internet for the summer, and wanted to play by myself, against the computer. :) I made up a bunch of new combinations for the civs, and used different golems. I had vultures instead of zerglings. It was kickass, and unbalanced.
The rule of thumb is: no matter what it is you're having trouble with, you should be at least 80% capable of doing it all by yourself; only ask if you need help with the other 20% or simply don't ask. If you can do that much then you'll be fine.
