Eh... I felt like it needed a new topic since the move.
As always, appreciate any feedback, suggestions, bug reports, whatever is on your mind. The less you tell me the problems, the less the probability of me fixing them. What's new: - Better searching - Removal search terms - Categories on the left side of splash ------------------------------------------------------------ - Portal system - Automatic image generation for maps - SC version for Mods - Images are clickable again, though not how I intended. The will open a new browser tab. - Favorites work again - Reviews are now shown + has link to write a review ------------------------------------------------------------ - A file can now have multiple SEN members as authors. - The tab interface. - File edit history. - Upgrading files now works. What's broken, being worked on: - Images sometimes gets messed up, apparently sometimes image dimensions can't be processed and it screws up everything ------------------------------------------------------------ - On the same note, clean up of code. Copy and pasted too many times since I started revamping. - Mod / reports. What's coming (near or far): - Non-sen authors - Possibly SEN editors & non-sen editors - Tag stats. - Exploded file stats: Who favorited and who downloaded this file - Recommended files: With individual favorites, downloads, ratings being track, there's a possibility of thing such as "people who loved this file, also loves this..." or a customized category of files, built automatically by other member's apparent preferences according to yours. - Possibly better history (only what's changed on tags, side by side view of descriptions). |

I think we need another category in the DLDB. Basically, a modding resources category, where we put all our GRP's, Consoles, and other crap. If we shoved all these under the normal mods catagory, it would get really cramped, and be hard to find an actual mod, due to the resources are in greater numbers then actual mods.
So, just something for you to consider, I think it would be a decent idea. |

Can you make the database categorized? Instead of looking for tags or searching for a users name, why not just have the maps sent to different categorys so that one could search for all the maps in that category. I know you can already do this by searching for the tag bound or defense, but it would spice up the map database page alot. Yeah I know it sounds like maplantis, but it worked, and it was more user freindly.

List tags in order of popularity, instead of some random order.
For example: I should be able to click "Database", Portal: "Maps", and tag "defense" to get defense maps. Except, that "defense" often doesn't show up in the list. -_- (Even if the "More..." link is fixed, I should not have to click it to view a popular tag.) |

Is it me or when you download a file, the overall file size doesn't show up. This is handy when people don't put how big their file is. ( Because its a waste of space ) Can you also place it somewhere near the map? Thanks.

When I click on more in the DLDB, I get directed to this link: http://www.staredit.net/?p=database&area=tags, which turns up an error.

Bug/issue:
The ' character is represented by #039; in the "Download _____.scx" file name in the DLDB. I can still upload the file, though. It's a problem if you take that map, and the map is already floating around b.net - then you've got to download the file twice unnecessarily. Plus, "Azala#039;s Self Defense.scx" just kinda looks bad. I can understand if its an unavoidable issue because of ' being a string delimiter, etc... |

The comments on the DLDB portal have a problem with the truncation. It is truncating the html and not the text of the comment, so for example you get (the red part is a smilies img tag being truncated):
<div style="padding:4px 10px 2px 10px"> Most likely one of the best concepts out there. <img src="/images/smilies/1/smile.gif" alt=":)" style="vertical-align:... [<a href="http://www.staredit.net/files/422/&load=comments">more</a>]</div> |

[<a href="http://www.staredit.net/files/422/&load=comments">more</a>]</div> This is all to do with PHP! There is a fix, however. When databases came into the world many years ago, they needed a method to 'escape' characters. But on a database level. Thus, PHP came up with addslashes($string) and stripslashes($string) Code<?php $str = "Is your name O'reilly?"; echo addslashes($str); ?> Which returns : CodeIs your name O\'reilly? And... Code<?php $str = "Is your name O\'reilly?"; echo stripslashes($str); ?> Returns... CodeIs your name O'reilly? Simple but effective. This is one of the many usable methods available to PHP programmers. |
