Help with tile-set.

Hello StarEdit community,

I am posting because I've hit a bit of a wall in my project. I am a senior in college and I have a project where I need to use assets from a known game. I am trying to acquire a tile-set from StarCraft. I have gotten to a point where I have obtained the .GRP from the .MPQ. I am using SFGrpconverter to convert the .GRP to a .BMP and I do indeed get the tile-set, but it is oddly colored (all tile-sets look creep-like). I recognize that there are other files in the .MPQ that are likely mappings to color the tiles accurately, but I feel like I'm missing something. I simply need a complete and colorized tile-set from the game. If anyone can inform me on how to colorize these tile-sets accurately, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time,
Kyper

Only the edges of creep are stored as GRPs. Everything else is stored in the .cv5 and assorted other files in the tileset directory.

I would recommend that you install PyMS (as detailed in this thread), extract all of the files for a tileset to the working directory (for example, tileset\platform\*) and then open the .cv5 file with PyTILE. That should allow you to extract all of the tiles you're looking for and use the correct palette.

Thanks Voyager. I'm looking into that now. How would I go about extracting the full tile-set as a .png? It doesnt look like there is an extract option. Am I just manually screen shotting and stitching it back together?

Press the "MegaTile Group Palette" button on the toolbar:

In the resulting window, click on a row of tiles. Or, you can SHIFT + click to select multiple rows.

Then click Export MegaTiles Group Graphics:

The selected rows will be saved as a .bmp. You'll need to convert it to a .png using whatever image program you want.
