With the announcement of
StarCraft: Remastered, the future of UMS (and by extension, any relevance SEN hopes to gain) is in jeopardy. While I'm not personally invested in SEN as a site, I think the members here are the community's best bet for creating proper mapping and modding tools, starting with a replacement to SCMDraft.
As a lengthy discussion in the shoutbox has shown, people here are willing to crowdfund the creation of such an editor. Once patch 1.18 hits on the 30th of March, we'll know a bit more about what to expect from the remastered edition of the game - whether MPQs are a thing of the past, whether old maps are broken, whether old programs are broken, etc. Anyone who's willing to work on this editor, please chime in and let us know you're out there. We should also compile a list of requested features to improve upon when making the new editor.
of course this is when SCMDraft still works fine on the remastered patch and I start eating my avatar for dinner

This is my prediction btw. Any features they added besides graphics were 3rd party tools, so why whould they want to break the old map format? There's no new units, or new mechanics, new terrain, or anything of that sort that would need a change in map format. The only thing that comes to mind is the possibility of new or altered triggers, but since they made no mention of UMS so far I don't think they will.
They are updating briefings, so new triggers are likely, even if they're only present in briefings. SCMDraft can't access shit all if mpqs aren't used for the remaster.
We'll find out more this Thursday, but even if nothing changes then it's no guarantee since the remaster is when they link it to the new battlenet and if there's an always-online warden activated you'll just be banned if you mod the files (if sc2 is any indicator).
Not exactly an official confirmation,
but...
None.
Math + Physics + StarCraft = Zoan
I wouldn't call that a confirmation. It's a comment made by the same tech support guy. Later, he even effectively
de-confirms it as speculation.
None.

ooh ok. Nevermind. I'm just too excited right now I think lol
I heard that blizzard shared the Starcraft client with SCMDraft2 dev (SI).
I don't know what this exactly means, but maybe we might expect some SCMDraft2-like official editor.
EUD
I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.
MVPs are not Blizzard employees. They are just users that post a lot on Blizz's forums with a decent quality. They do not have more information. ^.^
Sincerely, someone that has the community commander portrait and has as many information as you.
If there are new formats, I'll have some work to do soon

Interesting. I was occasionally talking to SI back in the day. He abandoned the project as something for a game he's grown out of and because rl stuff. At some point he was even considering releasing the code for others to continue but unfortunately that never happened. I was wondering if I should contact him again when the new patch is out and see if he'd be willing to come back or release the code. But if he's actually in contact with Blizzard now that's probably not necessary anymore.
Got any source on the rumor?
Excellent. Likely /thread, hopefully we can be just as lucky with the modding capabilities.

Omg can someone please translate
I used Google translate and he says he's working with the creator of SCMDraft or something to that effect.

Mostly was a lack of time since I started a full time job...

So... are you able to discuss anything that you have been working on with Blizzard, or if you even have been working on anything with them?
Right, what would be a fruitful way to pass on suggestions for the map editor?
None.
