I am looking for good, safe software that can rip sounds for a lot of video games, but not just for musical purposes! I want to know if it is possible to rip voice clips from games for projects, like for another game or forum or something? I just want to know if you have any advice as to where to donwload them, if they're free and if they work?

For Blizzard games: mpq extractors
For other games: other custom extractors
For some games: The files can be found in the directory structure. Sometimes need converting.
Emergency solution: record the sound while ingame.

huh... Yeah makes sense. I've been told that, so I guess going with those methods are the best.

Here's another question that's off topic, so bare with me on this one... Do you guys use 'cracked' software for modding StarCraft the way it is? I heard most of the software used to mod for gameplay and story-telling purposes is cracked software.

Is it okay to used crack software?

SEN has a weird aversion to discussing cracked software, but no modding programs are illegal or pirated. The closest you can come to is external shit like getting photoshop to create/edit sprites or apply palettes, audition to process voice acting and other custom audio, or fruityloops to make custom music, but all of that has nothing to do with modding starcraft and everything to do with you creating new assets.

Whether using cracked software is 'okay' or not is a moral question where only your personal opinions color the answer. I don't care about the fate of conglomerates that overcharge for their software, so I will use every functioning free alternative before shelling out 500+ USD for an adobe program license or whatever the hell they're going for these days. You may value different things than I and thus your answer (or at least your reasoning) will probably be different.

Damn Pronogo... That's a... good answer there. Shit, it made me think about it.

But yeah I think I can deal. ^^

Oh yeah also, for some reason when I am posting or when I browse through the site, the speed around here is unusually slow, which does not occur anywhere else on another forum, like CC or SC:L so I don't think it has anything to do with me... To me, it feels like it could have something to do with your server at the moment.

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

Cracked software is software that has been "cracked" or "broken" to allow it to be shared and used freely (as in free beer). This includes things like a nocd patch, or a loader which spoofs a proper key.

Modding tools are similar in concept, but different in purpose. They are the cracking software, not cracked software. In this case, the cracked software would be something nonfree like StarCraft. Mods are usually free, though if a nonfree modding software or mod came out, it could be cracked.

In a more relevant SC example, you can unlock a locked map using various methods that we won't discuss here. The unlocked map is a cracked map. The tool you used to unlock the map is the cracking software. Just because something is free as in free beer doesn't mean it's free as in freedom.

Alright, back on the main topic. So basically I need to use other software, probably custom extractors, so that I can process voice clips from various games, if that is possible. I know it can be done for a lot of Star Wars Games, so I guess it'll do.

The games I am aiming at are really Star Wars Games and they're for projects. So, I guess I need to find a good extractor that deals with Lucasarts material
