Oops, didn't notice there were so many replies, I thought I would a notification if anyone would reply.
I guess I need to explain myself a bit more. I certainly won't and can't even get close to really re-creating the atmosphere and gameplay of SS2, of course I can't. What I do can
try is to create a SC map which is elements from SS2
(and Deus Ex and a whole lot of other games and movies) which I think will be great in my map, if I can trigger them that is.
Is it impossible to truly re-create SS2? Of course it is. Will it be possible to do SS2 any justice with this attempt? Nope. Which is why I am most certainly not going to call it System Shock
. All in all, I'm just making a map which I think will be great to play.
Oh and for those people who think it will be absolutely impossible to come even CLOSE to anything related to SS2: oh well
. The engine I am working on is already able to create complete computer systems with GUI, maps, files, internet, e-mail and lots more. At the moment I'm working on an advanced hacking system which allows the player to slice elektronic systems through methods similair to real-life methods (so no killing zerglings or whatever, but scanning for open ports, dump files, sending virus-infected emails, etc). Considering that all the codes of all the computers will be fully randomized in every game hacking will be really necessary.
Well, I haven't yet finished all of those options but I'm 60% at creating an engine which allows me to create them.
PS: Oh and I would love to create an advanced VHP engine which allows stuff like weapon upgrades/modifications, multiple enemies, psi abilities, etc. I got stuck on one a couple of months ago and then lost it in a crash or four.
PS2: By the way, the map will be absolutely single-player. I can see absolutely no way to get this engine working without using things which kinda ruin any form of multiplayer.
