I have attached two different files to the post. The .scx file spits out an error message reading "The instruction at 0x004ce1c4 referenced memory at 0x00000014. The memory could not be read." immediately after I exit the briefing and begin running the scenario proper. Not a single frame of the scenario loads. The .scm is just an earlier version of the file which works fine. Whatever's causing the problem evidently has to do with one of the many dozens of things I added since then. It's not an issue with running .scx in general, because other .scx maps work fine. My OS is Windows 7 and I have no mods installed. Things I have already tried which have not helped:
-Running as administrator
-Running in any configuration of compatibility modes
-Moving the folder to the desktop
-Renaming the file name to be shorter such that it is not cut off like the original
-Closing background programs
-Running without the .bat file that fixes colors
I have not tried reinstalling, however every thread referencing this problem has stated that reinstalling doesn't work, so I doubt it would help.

So, update. During a binge of uninstalling old programs to free up hard drive space, I decided that while I was here it wouldn't hurt to uninstall and then reinstall StarCraft. For some reason this fixed the problem. I don't know if it's because I uninstalled a bunch of other programs or because I reinstalled SC. Or maybe it's because I widened the subway tunnels slightly, because I also did that. So to Googlers from the future trying to solve the same memory address problem: Try consulting your witch doctor, because every single person who has the problem seems to require a different solution.
None.
Glad you solved it; here's a bonus detail:
0x004CE1C4
Caused by: A corrupted section that is only invalid after the map start. For example: MRGN section size is 64 locations in a Broodwar scenario, or map is larger than 256x256

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch
MRGN section size is 64 locations in a Broodwar scenario
This sounds like the likely cause since he saved a .scm map as scx. Something went wrong during that and the map gets corrupted. Then later he opens again, map get saved, apparently correctly this time and things work again.
I highly doubt it has to do with an external program unless it was hooking into sc memory.
A little more investigation showed that it's a classic nook and crannies error (had to play another map before this one to see it without crashing): try widening terrain corridors and reducing the number of small nooks (it worked for me after removing all the doodads for example, but you probably wouldn't want that).
