Regarding the video, it's an odd music choice: as much as I love SoaD, Chop Suey just doesn't fit with MK.
Interesting, because while I don't listen to System of a Down I thought the track fitted the trailer perfectly.

I don't know about certain musical songs going to certain videos. That's way too subjective I think for anyone to be able to definitively say that. I will say what they did though is sync the trailer to the song. Like each scene change was tied to the beat. But that could have been done with any song.

They should have used this version, then:

So I finished the game. Story mode was kick ASS. The krypt is really fun to explore also. Gotta say, the difficulty curve though - kind of steep. Mastering combos involves sitting in practice room experimenting all day, trying to get timing right. It's tedious, but I suppose that's just the nature of the genre.

I'm more in it for the story, so at the moment I'm focusing on unlocking all the character endings, and trying to pull off as many fatalities and brutalities as I can.

Gotta say, PC port has a long list of issues though - not to do with the game itself, but the infrastructure - mainly the online component. Constant dropouts, problems with tagging moves and so on.

Seems as though this MK is shaping up to be one of the best releases for the franchise.

I made the following maps; Hyperion 2, The Undead, The Undead Coop, Realm Rpg beta, and Overlords. Follow me on twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/zsnakezz

One of my friends is what I would call a hardcore MK fan actually refused to buy it because of the dlc crap. He straight up told me that fighting games have a huge dlc problem and someone has to put their foot down somewhere.

There are two types of DLC in this game, cosmetic DLC and DLC for characters.

The five DLC characters are:
Goro (pre-order incentive)
Tanya (not out yet)
Predator (not out yet)
Jason (not out yet)
Tremor (not out yet)

With the exception of Goro, the characters weren't witheld from the game. They are still being created right now. They're not day 1 DLC. They're expansion packs basically. They add new characters to the game that you can pay for. I don't understand what is 'bad' about them.

Would you just rather have no characters? Or do you want the characters for free? Remember, game devs aren't charities...

It would make more sense to finish the game and them release it. Once a game is on the shelves that should be it. If they planed those characters fron the start then they should be in the base game.

Apr 28 2015, 4:53 pm Azrael Post #32

It would make more sense for them to do it however they want to do it. If they decided that creating the extra content wasn't worth the time unless it cost extra, so be it. I can't imagine how entitled someone has to feel to believe they deserve all game-related content that currently exists just because they bought something else.

Whether or not it's already made, or on the disc, or not even in development: it's the same difference. You didn't pay for it, because it's explicitly not included in the product you bought. If you don't think the product you bought is worth the price offered, then don't buy it; but don't refuse to buy it, or get upset, based on whatever other products exist. That's just absurd.

I'm all for paying for content that adds to the game. However, I have a problem when they nickle and dime you for dlc that barely adds any value to a game. I have bought map packs in Halo and CoD because they have enough content in there for me to get my moneys worth. I'm just seeing a trend in the wrong direction where developers are putting less effort into a release of a game because they can just add missing content in the form of dlc and make even more money on it.

That was my main problem right there. Asking people to prebuy a game that might not work properly on launch to receive an iconic character of the franchise without any other way of obtaining that character is quite honestly ridiculous.

Then don't buy that DLC? If it adds no value to the game *for you*, then you got a great deal by buying the game, since they included everything in the initial purchase that you did *personally* find value in.

He's been a playable character in less than 25% of the games. It wouldn't have been unreasonable for him to be left out entirely, let alone made an optional bonus.

Yeah, that's my argument for not buying Brood War.

Minus the pre-order exclusive, this doesn't seem to be a malicious cash grab. They made a game, and now they want to keep working on it and add more stuff. That's good, but the company has to pay the devs, and so there's no incentive to add onto a released game unless it generates more money in return.

Apr 28 2015, 9:02 pm Pr0nogo Post #37

Expansion pack =/= day 1 on-disk dlc (or even dlc in general). Expansion packs were generally priced within reason for the content they provided to consumers, whereas dlc often overcharges and underperforms. But dlc has never been a good thing, especially since ME3 and Batman AC when publishers realised they could literally lock out half the game from people unless they pre-bought copies. The only argument that supports this kind of blatant overpricing and shitty business ethics is one that is pro-capitalism, which is intrinsically flawed because it assumes capitalism is a sound (or even the best-possible) system.

It was said earlier that there isn't Day-1 DLC for this game. Also, expansion packs are often close to the price of a new game when they're released (WoW is a simple example), whereas DLC is rarely so expensive (though often times, as you say, they are smaller than an expansion would be). Season passes usually cost less than an expansion would, and in some cases they contain as much if not more content than an expansion (the amount of content you get for the $20 BioShock Infinite season pass, for example, is quite fair). That's not to say DLC isn't abused: as you mention, Day-1 DLC is effectively stripping features from a game and adding an extra charge to get them back. There are many examples of companies abusing DLC (probably the worst I can think of is The Sims 3, where there is $380 worth of DLC for a $20 game).

That's not what Mortal Kombat X is doing, however. Like I said, the preorder incentive is a scummy move (and that's a different issue from DLC), but it seems fair that the company charges money after spending post-production development on adding more features to their game. I'll go back on that statement if they charge unfairly for it (e.g., splitting it out into one DLC per character at $5-10 apiece).

Brood War had its own campaign that was as long as the base game. I honestly wouldn't consider an expansion of that scale DLC
