Man, my hype levels are through the roof for this. Can't wait to play the single player campaign, it looks absolutely epic. Mortal Kombat now is to fighting games what Starcraft is to the RTS genre. A great single player campaign AND multiplayer experience.

Anyone else hyped? If you're not - watch the trailer and GET HYPE.

I fucking want this so badly. But I have no xbox one/ps4 and it won't be worth it on the 360. ;_; Is it on the PC? Either way, I don't really think it'd be much fun on there.

It's available on Steam, so yeah. Based on the system requirements, I'm going to guess the port isn't very well optimised. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm absolutely terrible at games like this, I might've been excited about it. It's something I'll consider picking up on sale after a price drop.

PC master race! Though I use a 360 controller for racing and fighting games, as well as some RPGs where precision isn't required.

The fun thing about Mortal Combat is PvP with your friends. I doubt that's possible on the PC, and even if it is, that'd be a crowded space to try and fit two people around a 24" monitor or so.

I can't speak for a game that isn't even out yet, but even back when I was a kid you could play games split screen.
I remember playing The Settlers 1 with my friend. He had to use a joystick to control his kingdom. :><: Fun times!

mouse & keyboard > controller, but WASD could use about 8 more directions, perhaps play mouse in the right hand controller in the left? ^^

I don't know any fighting games that use 12 directions, JJ. In Mortal Kombat, at least, there's only eight directions: up, down, left, right, and the four diagonals. Diagonals are easily done by just holding down two keys, like W + A for diagonal up left.

I tried controller, and here are my thoughts on why I think it is objectively worse than a keyboard. And that's the placement of your fingers and thumbs. On a controller you have two thumbs doing basically all of the inputs. Left thumb hovers over the dpad, and right thumb hovers over XYAB. That means whenever you want to press a button you have to lift your thumb off whatever button you were pressing before.

Now look at the keyboard. I use WASD, which three of my fingers hover over, and IJKL, which three of my fingers hover over. This means I can press 6 out of 8 of the buttons simultaneously if I wanted. My reaction time is a lot quicker because I don't just have a single digit responsible for four keys. If I was some sort of really hardcore player I could actually have a set up like ASDF and JKL; and utilise my pinkies too, which would give me complete control with a digit for each input. But I've been raised on WASD all my life, so I don't think I would find that configuration very comfortable. BUT the option is there!

This problem is most apparent when attempting to do some combos in MK, like when they ask you to press two buttons at ONCE. Like X + Y at the same time. On the keyboard this is easy. On the controller it's very difficult, because I'm only using one digit! I've got to basically press my thumb between X + Y to depress both at the same time, which just feels weird.

TLDR: Keyboard is superior to controller in every way, you filthy peasants.

This is exactly what my mates did the other day. We hooked up my mate's giant TV to my rig and we played mortal kombat. Also there are things coming out/already out like Steam link and Steam machines, which allow you to stream your rig to the TV as well. There are plenty of options - and I don't think consoles can use this against PC anymore. I'm really just waiting for everyone to realise consoles are inferior in every way, and the glorious golden age of PC gaming to begin... Hopefully I don't have to wait too long.

 Dude that age is over since like 10 years ago. Most games have no heart anymore.

But yeah PCs are flexible enough to fully emulate console behavior while being capable of 1000 other things as well, but it comes with a cost: You have to invest effort: Get an Xbox Controller, get an extra cable / software streaming to your TV, keep graphics drivers up to date or can't play newer games, etc.

But with a console everything you need is already included to achieve maximum playability. People are lazy.

Get an extra controller for co-op, get an extra cable / software streaming to your monitor, keep system up to date or can't play any games, upgrade the hard drive to store more than just a few games, buy accessories to enhance certain game genres, buy a keyboard for ease of sending messages, expansion pak, memory cards, Duck Hunt gun, etc.

But with a PC, everything you need is already included to achieve maximum playability. And the modding community is irreplaceable.

Regarding the video, it's an odd music choice: as much as I love SoaD, Chop Suey just doesn't fit with MK.

I can't believe you're arguing that PC is the more care-free gaming platform...
1 - usually included. On PC you need it too unless you play a game that's comfortable for keyboard only. And even then it can get tricky when not all keypresses can be detected simultaneously.
2 - Why would you do that?
3 - I don't own a (modern) console, so correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that done with a single keypress on an automatic prompt? On PC you *can* auto-update too but many opt not to because of known cases where newer drivers break other stuff. (Which is exactly the kind of knowledge you don't need as a console user.)
4 - You need to install games now to play them? I remember the good times I just put in a DVD and the thing started right away. :/ Still only a slight pro for PC because the space you have there is not *that* much bigger for systems off the rack.
5 - same on PC
6 - I was arguing gaming. I doubt consoles get are bought because they're so nice to chat with. It's an add-on to extend capabilities. Just as there are add-ons on PC that extend its capabilities.
7 - wat? like DLCs? Because we have those on PCs too. Or memory cards? Then see 8
8 - I believe modern consoles don't need these anymore.
9 - see 5 ('sides, is there even such a thing for PC?)

1) Never, unless you're buying the deluxe bundle that costs extra.
2) I don't own a TV. Many people don't watch television anymore and don't generally have a use for them.
3) Yes, and it's mandatory, and it can take hours, and sometimes breaks games until they push another update. At least with PC you can choose if and when to update drivers, and you have the option of rolling them back.
4) Yes, in most cases. Also the basic tier consoles can only hold 3-4 large games before you run out of space.
5) Not really. Pretty much every single PC game is designed to function well with keyboard and mouse, with exceptions to bad console ports.
6) Communication is a key part of gaming. You could buy a special headset to do voice (another inconvenience for consoles, whereas virtually any mic will work for PC), but what about sending a message to an offline friend?
7) Nintendo 64
8) In other words, they're slowly catching up to PCs. Maybe another 10 years and the other problems will go away, too.
9) That's because PC has touchscreen.

Let's also not forget that you have to buy a new console every few years because developers stop making games for older ones. I know people with 10-year-old systems that still play relevant games today.

2) I bought one of these for my 360 many years ago because the TV I had available had potato quality and I found it inconvenient to step away from my computer if I wanted to play Soul Calibur :P
3) Never had any problems with using outdated drivers. With my previous graphics card I actually had to use a driver that was a year and a half old because all the newer ones made my computer freeze.
4) I always "installed" the game I played the most at the time on my 360 in order to make it load faster and make it use the DVD less to make it quieter. However, I only ever had room for one game at the time. Think it's a first generation 360 though, so I guess the newer versions have a bigger HDD.
5) I bought a wired 360 controller to use for certain games and that's it.
6) I have a 20 year old mic somewhere that still works fine, except for that "Zycorax sounds like he's sitting at the bottom of a well" bit... Never bothered trying to communicate with anyone during my few free attempts of XBox Live.
8) I think the XBox was the first console that didn't rely on memory cards for internal data storage.

Sooo, Mortal Kombat. I have the Komplete Edition on Steam, but I haven't played it much. I guess it's one of those game series it's hard to get into if you never played any of the early games in the series, especially if you're generally not a big fan of the genre. Hell, if it wasn't for the fact that I watched that terrible 1995 movie, I probably wouldn't be able to name a single character from the game :P

At first I legitimately thought you were trolling. But then it occurred to me:
You are arguing against a point I wasn't even making. Of course I agree the PC is the the better platform. I was explaining that consoles are easier to use:

That's why despite PCs being better people will (also) stick to consoles.

It's useful to move in a more precise direction when, for instance, you have to keep your gun on a target and you want to get to cover/ammo that isn't quite diagonal from you. Course you can go diagonal-cardinal-diagonal-cardinal but that's quite workaround-y and takes a long time to polish.
