Does anyone know what makes SCMDraft 2 crash like this ?

It happens for some of my maps and I experienced it again recently. I think WAV sounds may be the origin of this but not for sure.

It's the kind of maps where the more you save, the longer it takes time to save your map (may go beyond 1 minute). And eventually, SCM Draft 2 will crash.

A "Save as" + giving the map a new file name (or same name in a different folder) allows you to continue working without much trouble but I have to do this every 5 minutes or so.

Cartography Artisan

go to whatever folder the scmdraft exe's in, check for any files near 2gb (backup databases); rename or delete them if present

Thanks, so that's it.

I don't remember seeing a 2 Gb file (or maybe I didn't pay enough attention) and ended up deleting the SCMDraft folder instead.

I extracted it to remake the folder and its files and it works fine again (with any of my maps).

Disable the useless and unfinished backup and autosave features in the profile settings window. Disabling sound and unit death animations also reduce the likelihood of crashes.

It is neither unfinished nor useless. It's working really well and has been useful to me several times, for example when I wanted to check something in an older version of a map that I didn't save.

As far as I'm aware there's only this one bug where under rare circumstances the backup feature goes haywire and quietly inflates its database exorbitantly until the 2GB mark is hit and crashes ScmD.

Also personally I never experienced this bug, and while it's well known here at SEN, I think we just had in the ballpark of 20 reported instances over the years.

I think instead of recommending to disable the feature altogether we should make people aware that the bug exists and that it is easy to remedy. Just keep in mind to not rely on the backup database as the sole method of backup.

It has never worked for me, ever.
