I really do not understand what I could have done to do this to the map I'm working on: the minimap, which used to show properly the terrain, units and pings, now only shows the units and pings. The terrain is gone; it's pitch-black aside from the few dots representing the units on the field.
Any ideas?

None.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.
Custom tilesets might have this problem.
If this is the source of the problem, alter an existing tileset and use that instead.
I had tried that already. It is not the problem.

I did not change anything related to the tileset.
Is there a way to see what I have changed on a timeline? Or to compare two versions of the map?
None.
The only way to do that is to have it auto-save backups of your map every 10 or 15 minutes, then compare the map to an older version.

Manual compare, or is there an "automatic" tool that would sort out everything that is the same, and just show what differs between the two versions?
None.
Manually compare. As far as I know, there is no tool available to automatically compare.

Can you think of -anything- that could affect the minimap in that way through triggers and data editor?
This is really annoying...
EDIT:
Here is what fixed it: there was a custom image set as the "Preview Image" (value was set to "custom image" instead of "map image").
What's weird is that I hadn't added this custom image... so there are two possibilities: some black magic added this thing there, or it was already there and some black magic corrupted it.
Moral of this story: black magic is bad, m'kay?
