http://119.47.125.81/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=78796 has two fans, and is ~$50 cheaper than the other options. However, if the Fractal Design case is worth the extra money then I don't mind spending a little extra on it.

For monitors, I'm not sure what I need. I'm guessing I want an IPS monitor.
How about these:
http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?e=1177454 AOC i2352Vh 23inch

http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?e=837673 AOC i2340Ve 23inch

http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?e=1054444 VX2336s-LED 23inch (No HDMI port)

The first one looks the nicest, both in looks and features, but I don't know much at all about monitors. I believe ShadowFlare knows quite a lot about them, maybe she can help. (or anyone else who knows of course :P)

Excalibur, I think I'll take you up on your offer to check out and ship the other parts. I forgot to mention I don't need an optical drive, as I have one. So on your list of stuff, I will buy myself or have: monitor, case, optical drive, fans (come with the case most likely, depending on what I choose).

How do mail in rebates work? You pay the full price of the part and it ships with some sort of coupon which you return to get some money back?

EDIT
I'm thinking of getting the Zowie Celeritas (Cherry MX Browns, choice of PS/2 or USB.) $101 USD at newegg and amazon, both with free shipping. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823826001&cm_re=Mechanical_Keyboard-_-23-826-001-_-Product
Excalibur, that motherboard won't have PS/2 ports, will it? I'll probably just buy the USB version of the Celeritas anyway but PS/2 is technically better.

Mail in rebates are things that come with the product that you mail in and receive a cash card (like a re-loadable money card) back as a thank you for buying the product.

Most mobos don't have PS/2 ports anymore. Any Gigabyte, ASUS, or Biostar (yes Biostar :P) will do you fine, but double check your final choice with me first.

Edit: Jack, PCPPNZ is working. Can I get your budget in NZD?
Using a converter I assume its about 1500$ NZD.

This is just for the tower and internals:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD A8-3870K 3.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($150.34 @ Aquila Technology)
Motherboard: Asus F1A75-V PRO ATX FM1 Motherboard ($168.50 @ Computer Lounge)

If you OC the GPU and use the latest drivers you can do better than the stock numbers which you can find here:

That's a slightly cheaper price to what it would work out as if I had it shipped from the USA; except that doesn't include a monitor. Total build price in NZD including monitor, keyboard, and a guesstimated price for the mouse comes to ~$1750, which is doable.

I could probably shave ~$100 or more off the price by shipping it from the USA but I'd actually prefer spending the extra and having the peace of mind knowing it's all in NZ and I can manage it myself :P

http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=974936 is $40 or so cheaper than the Crucial M4; is there something about the Crucial M4 that makes it worth the extra?

http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=538597 ~$100 cheaper than the Seasonic; same question.

The SeaSonic is like the king of PSUs. You could use it in any desktop build you do for the next 5-8yrs with complete confidence. I bought myself a Seasonic X-650 and I will never need to purchase another PSU again. The peace of mind is worth it to me. That Antec is fine and all, but it isn't modular, and it isn't a SeaSonic.

That Samsung seems fine but ask Rockz as well.

What is the difference between this http://www.alphacity.co.nz/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=67_383_268&products_id=98429
and this http://www.aquilatech.co.nz/productDetail.asp?idProduct=59048

The second one is the one PCPartpicker had listed, but it doesn't say it's the K version. Neither does the first link, but it says it's Black Edition and is what pricespy links as the 3870K.

No; in fact, the Samsung drive is faster than the M4.

The M4 was a good choice at one point because it was cheap and reliable, but there are better drives to choose from now.

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

Antec True Power New are made by seasonic and partially modular. The motherboard and CPU power aren't removable because you shouldn't be removing them in the first place, unless you're doing some crazy dual power system. Seasonics are nice, but enermax and super flower are just as good. Really with these new 80+ PSUs it's hard to get stinkers on power supplies anymore. The antec Neo Ecos are seasonics from 5 years ago (TPN are from 2 years ago).

The samsung 830 is a better drive than the crucial m4. Mostly stay away from OCZ on SSDs.

I've purchased almost everything except the CPU, as I'm unsure which CPU I'm supposed to be getting. I'd prefer an overclockable one to a standard one, which is what the K is about if I'm right, and perhaps the Black Edition. I don't even know though ;o

Black editions let you change the multiplier. Nonblack editions have a capped multiplier. To overclock you have to increase the bclock, which overclocks ram too.

afaik only intel uses k processors to say that the multiplier is unlocked. Intel sandy bridges and later have a locked bclock.

Everything has been purchased except a mouse, now. I have mice lying around at home which I can use until I decide on one to buy. Thanks everyone for your help, especially Excalibur <3

I'll post in this thread when I start assembling the PC, once the parts arrive. Amazon reckons the GPU will take about three weeks to ship so it might be about that far away.

No livestream but I've had the PC up and running for about a week now. Here's the pics I promised http://imgur.com/a/khPfB
The graphics card, keyboard, and mouse (still haven't chosen a mouse) haven't arrived yet so I'll post some more pics when they have. The onboard graphics card runs SC2 at medium, LoL at high, skyrim at low to medium, which is pretty good considering it's some integrated thing. Boot time is around 10 seconds from a cold start, I haven't timed it exactly though. The CPU is plenty cool enough (and yes I did put the thermal paste on :P) and so far I'm extremely pleased with it. 23inch is pretty large for a monitor :O in my opinion, at least.

Need to work on your cable management Jacky, but good job. :)

Get the final parts, clean up the cords, and take some more pics. :3

This. I'd be scared of the cpu or motherboard getting cracked if the computer had to be transported anywhere (eg loading and unloading from a car).

None.

This makes me want an Ex-Recommend build ... :P But I don't have the money or need for one.

The monitor looks good even in the photo. The second photo of it in operation seems a little dark, but that's probably your camera that did that.

Yeah, the second photo was a bad photo. My keyboard has arrived now (Zowie Celeritas) and although it'll take a little while to get used to as it's my first mechanical, it feels amazing to type on.

I have Flash's keyboard now :DDDD
