A competitive game where you learn new things! It seems to be mostly used for languages, but has other subjects too. It's editable by users, wiki style, and is quite fun. I'm currently learning Korean and Maori under the ID TL-Birdie.

EDIT
No more contest.

The first week starts on Sunday/Monday (lol timezones), and I'll base it on the week's prgress, not the overall score, so late starters won't have a disadvantage in theory.

I joined, my name is firekame. I am both for and against this type of training. I am for it because any way of getting people to learn is a good way, and I've been telling myself I would learn these things "one day" and here is my opportunity. But I am against it as well, because I feel like people will learn very little in an attempt to garner as many points as possible in a short amount of time.

Anyways, I'll take this more seriously if Sacrieur takes part. :awesome:

As far as I know, long term memory (garden planets) gives more points than short term memories so it's impractical to mass game short term stuff. Plus, it's only 20 minerals :P

Oh hey, yeah I signed up because this is a good thing and a great way to finally encourage me to get French under my belt.

Well, I've long wanted to try learning German.

Don't really care about competing with anyone considering I'm already wondering where the hell all my time's going, though.

Memrise seems to have some problems with languages using another alphabet if you try to type your answers normally, for example it reads ちゃん (chan) as tiyan, and じゃない (janai) as ziyanai :|

EDIT: And if someone tries to put in BOTH letters from our alphabet and another alphabet (i.e. "adjectives that don't usually end in い") everything just goes to hell if you can't type in the other alphabet >_>;

I've noticed that some of the Japanese terms are not correct. At first I thought I was rusty, but other people have pointed them out too. For example, it says torei is washroom, but it should be toire I think.

Well, the week has started a few hours ago. I think the points system isn't giving me as many points as it did before :'( ah well. I've finished learning the Korean alphabet, although I have to keep watering/revising of course. Now I'm onto Korean grammar and Korean vocabulary. I just suspect my pronunciation is really horrible, but it's a bit hard to tell without a Korean to speak to. I can ask some of my Korean friends though and see what they think :P

if you're cute enough I'll see if my cute friend in Korea will practice with you :awesome:

orly :wtfawesome:

Cuteness doesn't really matter ;o although I have some Korean friends online and IRL, so I should be OK. Need to learn more vocab and grammar first.

You guys all seem to have really high scores, although I did miss the first few days due to business. Are you actually learning stuff? It'll be interesting to see if you can keep up after a few weeks of adding more and more words to your amount.

I don't have to try very hard, usually just looking at the word for a few seconds is more than enough. But I'm not concerned with specifics (like how words are pronounced specifically or mange vs. manger). I'll learn all of that when I learn grammar, like I did with English. Right now it's just a matter of jamming words into my brain so I could recognize them if I see them.

After this week I'm changing the rules to require only languages to be learned on the account you're using to compete, to prevent the system being gamed. I'm also going to require a screenshot of all your gardens like so:
Reason for that is that if someone has way too many plants wilting without watering them because they're just mass gaming then I'll have to change the rules for THAT as well, which I don't want to have to do but will if people aren't playing this to learn but rather to get as many points as possible to get my minerals.

I'm not going to get a new account to learn stuff like Art History or (I have seen) Music Theory. If that takes me out of the contest fine. :bleh:

K no more contest then, as it'd only be myself and Sacrieur. I'll send whoever wins their minerals in a couple hours when the week ends.
